Pros

your shift ends at some point

Cons

Not enough staff and management continues to try and reduce staffing levels to leverage their operating margin....also complaining that they are spending too much on staffing agencies so cuts need to be made elsewhere...who's fault is that? Clinical staff is task saturated and patients receive poor care to that point that it's no longer safe. Little to no support from upper management. There is zero support from the c-suite. Clinical staff is super burned out. Communication poor. Won't consider any changes unless it involves earning a penny.

Pros

Used to be a place of which you could be proud to work. Staff genuinely care about patients.

Cons

Leadership has lost sight of the point in their constant search for more hospitals to buy. About 5 years ago, it began to show that they didn’t care about employees, but still cared about the patient experience. Now it is very clear they do not care about employees at all and don’t really care about patients either. Staff is so over worked and under staffed and instead of addressing that or providing pay or benefit increases, it’s been cut or reduced. They continually ask staff to bend over backwards but do not invest in them. Because staff are so poorly cared for, it’s starting to impact patients. We want to provide excellent care but it’s becoming impossible.

Pros

Great co-workers (for the most part). Competitive pay and benefits. Proud of the department staff caring of patients and outcomes.

Cons

Too many management meetings and 70 - 80 work weeks leads to no work-life balance. Time off denied more than once...more than twice; and once even during a family surgery day! Constantly denied additional FTE to meet staffing needs. Unattainable goals set for managers they look to move out. When your Employee Opinion Survey says you have a Senior Leadership problem, it's time to look at the Senior Leadership team and make changes! Oh wait, Senior Leadership is in control ~ that will never happen! And control they do!
