It's a New Day at Associa

Pros

I've been with Associa for several years and have had many ups and downs on my journey here. What kept me going through all of it was the people. This company is filled with amazing people at every level. Family Spirit is one of Associa's core values and it's illustrated everyday. The dedication and support of the employees, from the Home Office through every single branch across the globe, is unrivaled. The company started small with everyone knowing everyone - and even as we've grown to 9000+, it still feels like family. Another great quality of this company is Associa's focus on improvement. It's a company that is constantly shifting and adapting to get better. It doesn't always get it right - and the constant change can be too much for some who prefer a more static, structured environment - but I'd personally, rather work for a company that's not afraid to try new things. There is a plan and a direction - and while it's not perfect, it's working. The company is focused on it's goals that includes profit AND people - and you can't have one without the other. The path hasn't been easy, for sure - but it's turning a corner and I'm happy to say it's been worth it. It's a new, better day at Associa. This is no longer just the company I work for - it's my company that I'm proud to work for.

Cons

My two complaints: workload, pay scale. Workload: this company runs lean - at many levels, if not all levels. Everyone has too much on their plates, and it's consistent throughout the company. The upsides are that you're never bored and everyone's contribution is important. The downside is that it can wear you down - which is why it helps to be surrounded by great people. While I understand the expense of headcount, I think staffing is still an area where Associa has a bit of work to do. Pay scale: the company has historically not paid as well as some other companies. With it's ever-increasing focus on its people and improvement in multiple areas though, I'm hoping this will eventually right itself as well. The upsides to both of these issues are that the company is aware and acknowledged it's an area of improvement - and in the meantime, working to create an environment that people want to be in.

Smart and Fair Company

Pros

They hired the most qualified applicants. They utilized every resource so that you can work smarter not harder. They were fair with wages. My co-workers were wonderful. They had company functions/luncheons so that all the departments could come together as one. I appreciated that.

Cons

I assumed you couldn't speak to the owner even if you wanted to. It appeared that there was someone he spoke with that spoke to someone else who spoke to someone else who then spoke to the management and the management spoke to the employee. No room for growth position wise and it did seem like you were kept in the dark on decisions that had an impact on your department.

Positive review from former employee

Pros

My last day at Associa was last week and I can’t think of a better way to honor my 6 years with the company than to share my experience as an employee. So often you read reviews on hotels, restaurants and even employers and the overwhelming majority are negative. Fortunately, I get to share the positive. While no job is perfect, equally no employer is perfect. But my 6 years at Associa, serving in multiple roles within the organization, collectively represents one of my most positive work experiences to date. And I hope this helps prospective and current employees and clients alike see my perspective of the Associa family, focusing on the three most important things to me as an employee: people, opportunities for growth, and vision. People: I am most passionate about people. Without a doubt the people at Associa are what kept me there for so long, and is what I will miss the most. No one is perfect, but the people at Associa truly make up a group of individuals trying their very hardest to live out the company’s mission and vision daily, most often around the clock. Opportunities for Growth: I didn’t start in the community management industry. In fact, I knew next to nothing about it when I began. I started in the Government Affairs Department at the Home Office in Dallas. Three short years later I moved to Change Management and then grew my scope to include Communications. Not only did I get to experience growth while at Associa, but so did most of my other colleagues – many of whom came from branch offices and grew from within. Additionally, the new performance review process rolled out this year provided a consistent opportunity for growth and development regardless of title, position, or office location across the globe. Vision and Direction: We all know what we stand for (hopefully) and working for a company that knows what it stands for is equally important in my book. Associa’s vision and values so closely line up with my personal values that it was easy to live them out (or at least try to) in my professional life: customer service, loyalty, innovation and improvement, integrity and accountability, and family spirit. While I’m certain not every employee had quite the experience I did at Associa, I know there are many out there who have, and still do, feel as if they contribute(d) to the organization. I am fortunate to walk away from Associa with positive memories working alongside the people while serving the communities we manage.

Cons

No company is perfect. And in order to continuously find ways to innovate for long term sustainability, change is required. Associa is without a doubt a company not afraid of change and moves at a very fast pace. If change and working in a fast paced environment are not for you, then neither is Associa. I personally enjoyed it. Every day looked different and I walked away with a lot of experience.
