Could be better

Pros

AutoZone offers a lot of great things (i.e. community service opportunities, social groups, and social events), but it often feels these are intentional distractions from the failures the company would prefer not to address (i.e. nepotism, unqualified individuals in roles, non-existent training programs, limited employee development, the over-emphasis on stock buy-backs to increase company share value).

Cons

It's difficult to speak for the entirety of the SSC, but the relationship within Merch & Supply Chain is non-collaborative and severely imbalanced. Unfortunately, this stems from the very top that reinforces the mindset within Merch that they "drive" the company, which in turn creates an overinflated sense of self-worth and is displayed as such in the way they interact with support functions all while deflecting work responsibilities. Unfortunately, most do not share an optimistic outlook since Phil Danielle, the announced CEO-in-waiting, oversees these two functions and has shown no interest in unifying the two teams, ultimately creating a bleak outlook for the company with his impending takeover as CEO in January.

From the mind of a current Autozoner for the better of all

Pros

I enjoy working for Autzone. Although there is a "hierarchy" of sorts, those in the higher management roles don't hide behind phones all the time. I have seen my store manager's boss quite a few times in our store and have actually seen the regional managers once. Autozone also has a points system. It's different from many companies in that it's similar to a "second chance" net. You don't want to accrue points, however, everyone makes mistakes, so you're allowed a certain amount before you get talked to. This is something I appreciate because some of my previous jobs said that they'd work with me, only to leave me high and dry after just one misstep.

Cons

While I don't see life as revolving around money, but rather by who people are on the inside, Autozone does not pay very well. Also, unless you are a gray shirt, aka manager, it is hard (but thankfully not impossible if you ask) to get 40 hours a week even as a full time employee.

Pros

It’s retail management- decent money There used to be so many more but the direction of the company has changed

Cons

Empowered to take care of the customer unless you stand up to upper management and give them a suggestion, then you are reprimanded or terminated for bending the same rules they empowered you to in order to take care of the customer. You make your own schedule at the DMs discretion, very strict “rotation” you have to stick to. No leadership from above, only delegation of directives and holding of accountability
