Pros

Interesting, challenging work. Most of the people you work with take an honest days work seriously. The salary is amazing and some of the schedules are pretty nice like three days on and three days off as well as what they call the Texas two step were you get a four day weekend once a month. They also have amazing benefits with gym memberships and the like through the insurance.

Cons

This company is not very gender or racial neutral. I had a ton of issues that stemmed from my race and my gender not to mention the fact that I was hired in at the corporate office and not from the field. If you are female be prepared to be in the fight of your life not only to keep your job but to be respected as a part of the team. You will be ostracized, set up to fail, and even human resources will not assist you as they should. When I finally left the relief I felt was overwhelming.

Pros

- Railroad isn’t going anywhere anytime soon - Some corporate jobs have manageable hours (except when they keep piling on due to cuts & attrition) - OK but not great compensation and benefits - Used to be a great place to work. Maybe execs and our “owner” can figure out how to foster that again

Cons

- Got rid of pension which used to be a major draw, selling point and retention benefit - No annual raises in 2021 with explanation by our new CEO of “no expected inflation” by which is ridiculous, even after all employees helped deliver all time record operating ratio in 2020 - Message from HR VP and others is essentially “be happy we didn’t fire you during the downturn”. HR is clueless about how to retain employees and just make hollow statements like “this is a great place to work” and “people are our biggest asset”. - Terrible bonus payouts the past several years, even while billions in profits sent to Berkshire Hathaway. BRK leader Greg Abel who “manages” BNSF is a cutthroat miser with a reputation of cutting and slashing and not caring about employees - always “do more with less”, and nothing is ever good enough - Morale and culture is terrible right now, & has been for the past 2-3 years, but senior execs act clueless about why people are bailing. New CEO noticeably silent while Rome is burning - take some immediate action and manage up! - Many, many talented and long tenure employees quitting left and right the past 9-12 months for better opportunities at suppliers, other railroads or other companies in DFW. Remaining staff expected to pick up the slack and burdened with training newbies. No end in sight and no rays of hope offered by CEO / upper mgmt. - I would not recommend BNSF to anyone looking for a great place to work at this point. It’s just another greedy company squeezing exempts and all employees while swimming in cash and profits. I know so many people that are just waiting to see if there is another poor bonus payout at the end of the year. If so, many more people will bail because it will demonstrate that the company truly doesn’t listen or care if we stay or leave.

Pros

Ample opportunities for experience in functional areas across the company; great retirement benefits (if you can handle 30+ years there).

Cons

Toxic culture; tone deaf, self-congratulatory senior management; company mindset seems stuck in the 1970s; lack of accountability.
