Pros
Overall laid-back environment, depending on who your supervisor is. Easy job with good pay. Most co-workers are easy to work with. Advancement opportunities are available. On-site Clinic, cafeteria, gym, and physical therapy.
Cons
Management and other departments work against each other which creates a lack of direction. Most managers have no machine shop experience or any knowledge of the trade. Shop Managers usually rotate every 2 years to other departments which causes inconsistencies in policy management. Poor communication between Managers and Supervisors leads to irregular and conflicting information. Claims to be team oriented but not. Each department pushes blame on one another when mistakes are made. One of the slowest production based environments you’ll ever work in. Majority of machining processes have never been improved. Some machines are 60+ years old and will never be replaced. Working here will become monotonous and boring. Employees become lazy and lose motivation after about a year. No cell-phones allowed. There IS music available to listen to, but NOT for machinists. Required overtime.
