Pros

Many departments look for those direct care level employees who show aptitude, character and interest in becoming leaders. The company invest a good deal of time and money in providing training so people have a chance to turn this into a true career if they desire. The benefit package is generous. As a grass roots agency, the mid level management still have a voice and the ability to initiate change.

Cons

The ever changing field requires that leadership be responsive to new regulations, funding streams and requirements so to the direct care level staff it may feel like things are always changing. Funding streams do not provide adequate funds to allow us to pay direct care staff what they are really worth.

Pros

When I started working for The Homestead, I worked as direct care staff at the youth home location. When I completed by degree, I worked as an ABA specialist and was then promoted into leadership. Something I love about The Homestead is that they strive to develop staff and promote from within the organization. As a direct care staff and in leadership, upper management hears you as an employee. They understand that we are people and life happens. Management has always worked with me when things come up that are out of my control. What initially brought me to The Homestead is that I have a meaningful purpose. Everyday I get to work with people with Autism and help them reach their goals. When the persons served make progress it shows the impact I've made to improve their lives. No matter how much I have taught the people we serve, everyday I walk away learning just as much from them. Some things they have taught me are patience, how to enjoy and be grateful for the simple things in life, and to be constantly working on my own self improvement.

Cons

The average range of pay compared to market is on the lower end...benefits rock though - especially the retirement plan :)
