Thanks so much for the kind words about the great people here at Banner, and our flexibility and compensation; it’s always so rewarding for us each time we hear comments like yours. It was interesting, however, to also read your comment about being put into a management role here that you apparently didn’t want. Whenever we invite people to join the Banner team, it’s our goal from the onset to create a win-win situation, one in which we’re setting a person up for success; we want to ensure that each person has a clear understanding of what their role would be here, and that it’s a solid match for their talents and interests. We’re also just fine with our employees growing their careers here, which means they have the opportunity to stretch their wings and expand into other positions. In your case, however, it seems we missed the mark; it would never be our intention to put someone into a role in which they’re not qualified or interested. We apologize.

Pros

The company is growing and has a broad product portfolio. There many great employees within the organization and overall the company is somewhat enjoyable to be a part of.

Cons

The salary for most, if not all positions is typically below market averages. As a result it is nearly impossible to bring talented employees in or to keep the ones that are here. This in turn makes working at Banner very frustrating and almost futile. There is also little to no differentiation between top performers and under performers, both in terms of pay and recognition.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We’d like to take this opportunity to address a few points you raised. Banner Engineering does benchmark total compensation levels and adjusts levels as needed based on purchased salary data. Our strong employee retention record indicates that we are competitive in our compensation and work-life balance expectations. Over the last several years, the company has made strides to improve inter-company communication, including hosting quarterly corporate meetings to review plans and company performance. In addition, our strong growth has allowed us to expand our staff to include specialists in engineering systems and process, as well as significantly expand our R&D resources.

Pros

This space requires a minimum of 20 words. I can state with great certainty that there are none.

Cons

Micromanaging by inexperienced managers. Many would not be at junior level in other companies. Unwillingness to invest in current engineering tools that could significantly increase their competitiveness. Pay is at least 15 to 20 percent below market. Paternalistic attitude by management. Building is locked on Sundays ( my only explanation is that the owner wants employees home on Sundays) yet there is little to no opportunity for remote work.

Thank you for your comments. It is true that Banner Engineering is closed on Sundays (and closes at 7:00pm on weeknights and 1:00pm on Saturdays). The reason for this that Banner Engineering strives to maintain a good work-life balance. Part of demonstrating this is making sure that time away from work is encouraged! We believe our normal hours of operation during the work week and Saturday allow ample time for project work to move forward. Because of our strong growth, we continue to significantly invest in R&D, including doubling the size of our R&D facilities, hiring technical staff, and investing in new R&D systems that impact all engineering disciplines.
