Pros

Remote work Unlimited PTO (good and bad thing) Initial pay is pretty competitive Decent severance package Interesting to work with a brand that you have already interacted with without realizing it

Cons

This company did extremely well during the pandemic and a couple of years or so after due to the space it operates in. It feels like leadership felt that they could capture that momentum forever and aggressively expand out the headcount expecting ever increasing sales volume to come through. This is obviously not the case, eventually growth and profitability slows down. As a result, this created a lot of job instability, the leadership team is quick to make layoffs when profitability is not where they want it to be. In 2023 there were at least two rounds of layoffs. In the midst of these layoffs in 2023 Bazaarvoice acquired two companies. This certainly feels a mismatch of priorities, on one hand you have enough capital to acquire two companies but on the other you don't have enough to maintain current headcount. (I understand it could be more nuanced than that, but as someone effected by the layoffs it is hard to see it from a different perspective.) In short, it really seems like leadership makes decisions only looking at the short term without considering the long term ramifications. I was in a position where I had to work across a number of different teams, one of the biggest challenges was find who is responsible for what. I would ask my manager, who would then point me to someone, that someone would point me to a different person, ect. There is a huge meeting culture, nothing could ever be sorted out by an IM or email, almost everything had to be hashed out over a call, this would get very tedious and time consuming.

Pros

The culture here is truly fantastic (although the new CEO may change the current culture). The actual workers are amazing people and I truly feel as if they encompass what BV tries to be. Great benefits Great culture Casual dress Open, colorful layout prevents you from feeling like you work in a library WFH ability and the freedom to work in focus rooms or on couches for comfort

Cons

Middle management. Especially a team led by a particular woman are very clique-ish and exclusive to people of color. Perception is everything so if the wrong person doesn't like you, your credibility is shot. This team is led by a woman with no previous management experience, is unprofessional, disrespectful, and literally curses out people she doesn't like. How is she employed? Because BV's leadership has a good old boy club who takes care of their own. Stagnant positions. No real room for growth. You'll find yourself wasting brain power doing the exact same thing every day. Heavy Micro management Below average pay when compared to market values Lack of foresight by leadership. An example of this is a new role was stood up in February 2018 only to be offshored in April 2018 bc it provided no value. Lack of ability to prioritize projects. No efficiency Diversity is not practiced at BV. New CEO is rude and doesn't consider the people in his decisions.
