Pros

-Flexibility with your schedule if you are in graduate school, have kids, or want to plan a vacation. You can always take off time and make up the hours with the kids you work with before or after your absence. -Quarterly training workshops to brush up on skills (which you get paid for). -Many days are really fun playing with sweet children that really grow to adore you. Although we are working on goals and teaching skills, playing is a huge part of our sessions… playing with play doh, jumping on trampolines, and reading stories is a lot better than being trapped in a cubicle.

Cons

-Driving between clients homes can be time consuming. Although you are reimbursed for mileage, you are not paid for this driving time which can add up to a couple hours each day especially when there is traffic. - Some kids can have very difficult behaviors to manage like aggression, tantrums, and bolting. We work to try to reduce the behaviors (its part of the job) but it can be difficult and frustrating at times and make you get home at the end of the day feeling drained and grumpy. - Many things you need to know to do the job you learn as you go. This is fine in the long run but initially it can feel overwhelming at times (specifically in the BT role when it comes to the administrative parts of the job).

Pros

Great training in the beginning. Was set up with all the equipment needed for the job. Easy time sheet management.

Cons

Fee for service = no hours, not full time at all. If clients canceled you didn't get paid. The traveling was absolutely ridiculous. Not allowing for a break or time to get gas. The managers were terrible. No help ever. Clients/parents were rude, not accommodating. They gave me Spanish speaking parents when I don't speak Spanish. The hours are trash, 8am-6pm where is the work life balance?? Mileage needs to be way more money for the travel.

We are disappointed that your experience did not meet your expectations. Cancellations are an unfortunate challenge that all ABA agencies experience. Beacon works alongside families to minimize unexpected cancellations and reschedule whenever possible. We understand the inconsistencies in hours can be difficult and have added paid time off and staffing resources for rescheduling appointments when families must cancel due to unexpected circumstances. We have a cancellation policy in place to support staff needs for consistency in hours. We provide services to children throughout Massachusetts and place an emphasis on maintaining small regional areas to prevent staff from having long commutes between home visits. To set expectations during the hiring process, we carefully discuss the intended region with each candidate so they have a full understanding of the region they will be servicing. We find that most people are pleasantly surprised about the small size of the regions compared with other ABA home-based providers. Beacon also provides a 30-minute break without travel for staff who work six or more hours, in compliance with state labor laws. We recognize the impactful work that our team does in support of children and families. We strive for transparency and continuous improvement in all areas of our practice. We value your feedback and welcome the opportunity to discuss your comments further. We invite you to reach out to us at support@beaconservices.org.

Pros

The clients and families are great to work for BCBA are good with helping you get hours

Cons

The main concern is pay and not the hourly rate ABT and BTs get but the fact you don’t get paid for cancellations, not even a non-billable rate. This reinforces some families to either show up an hour late or not be at the home at all or cancel constantly which leaves you with no time for makeup session. Families that do this don’t get reprimanded and our paychecks are the ones that suffer. BCBA are understanding but the higher ups of the company don’t care about you because they make their salary while we struggle to pay bills because of hours. If you go to the doctor and cancel last minute you still have to pay for the appointment why is it different for us as employees.turn over rate is high for this one reason they could simply fix
