Mediocre on many levels

Pros

Stable company, they are not going away any time soon. I worked at this company at a time when I really needed a job and pretty much clutched at the first thing that came along as the economy was tanking so this provided security. If you're lucky you can get to work with some great organisations with an inspiring mission

Cons

Blackbaud suffer from the big fish/little pond syndrome in the not for profit sector. Which impacts them on a number of levels: 1. Spectacularly uncompetitive salary with no / below inflation pay rises. All employees can earn money and are encouraged to generate 'business leads' with existing customers. While this can be a useful/essential source of additional income, it leaves a bad taste. How can customers trust the advice they are given when ultimately the employee is just trying to milk them for all they've got? 2. Few opportunities for career development. If you want to coast in your career then this is the place for you. You can quite happily sit at this organisation for 10 years spinning your wheels. Management are largely making it up as they go along, no real strategy or direction. Furthermore they have no real incentive for developing talent. 3. Charleston is the centre of their world Which should tell you everything you need to know about that. 4. Outdated technology Seriously though! The flagship product, The Raisers Edge, was outdated 10 years ago. It's a miracle it's not obsolete, Enterprise CRM isn't much better and doesn't justify the cost. The only reason it's a viable proposition is because other tech vendors aren't serious about competing in this sector.

Pros

The clients are really great.

Cons

In Europe all male management team who spend most of their time proving themselves to each other. Only interest is money. Clients don't exist if not buying additional products. Weak and really outdated technology.

Pros

Flexible relaxed working environment, provide a lot of extra perks that other employers would not. Staff are genuine and nice to work with.

Cons

Very HQ focused, smaller offices get forgotten. While opportunity for advancement exists, management have already headhunted who they want for the role and interview the rest of the applicants as a formality. Pay structure is not consistent across teams, new employees can negotiate while existing more senior staff are not compensated for their knowledge or tenure. Decisions about teams and targets are made by higher ups who don’t have a working knowledge of what the ground workers have to deal with on a day to day basis. A lot of products are outdated and cumbersome compared to competitors. QA on updates appear to be non existent as they usually cause more problems than they resolve.
