Pros

Compensation? The business model is relatively sane for a startup. They're hiring like crazy in Seattle.

Cons

Management is untrustworthy. Multiple rounds of layoffs in late 2019 and early 2020. The latest round of layoffs was blamed on the pandemic. It was an excuse to get rid of certain people mostly from the NY office. Managers were privately hinting at the exit of certain people as a reason that the company would improve going forward. Announcing the layoffs on the same day as a large round of VC funding didn't help either. Existing employees were asking for a 409A valuation for months to ascertain the value of their stock options. When it came through, the valuation was much lower than people expected. The delay and obfuscation could be seen as a deliberate tactic to keep people while the bad news was delayed. As a company that does e-Commerce and delivery for drugs, the pandemic should be good for sales. If they haven't significantly grown revenue by the end of 2020 then it could get really ugly. There are other reasons that I cannot get into specifically without revealing my identity. I fully expect Blink Health to prosecute NDAs or other legal remedies against former employees without hesitation.

Pros

decent compensation and benefits for the employees that are left

Cons

Months of constant firings and layoffs have completely tanked morale. Incredibly bureaucratic for such a small company, way too many levels of management that don't add value to product development.

Pros

Geoff tries to portray himself as a fitness guru, investment expert, and politician, but in reality, he fails to excel in any of these roles. The management at this company is utterly ineffective, as they struggle to function cohesively. There seems to be a complete lack of skill in creating proper operating plans or budgets, resulting in a chaotic work environment. Projects are constantly in a state of disarray because of the inability to make timely decisions. Instead of distributing work evenly, management tends to hoard tasks, creating unnecessary bottlenecks and hindering progress. On another note, the advice given by Geoff regarding heart rate zones is misleading. Heart rate zones are dependent on individual factors and maximum heart rate, and it's not appropriate to project a specific range as an absolute rule for everyone to follow. Such misinformation can lead to health risks and should be avoided. Overall, this company exhibits poor leadership, organizational dysfunction, and misguided advice, making it a challenging and frustrating place to work.

Cons

Lack of Focus and Expertise: Geoff's attempt to juggle multiple roles as a fitness guru, investment expert, and politician shows a lack of focus and raises questions about his actual expertise in any of these areas. Ineffective Management: The management at this company appears to be incompetent and incapable of making crucial decisions. This results in a lack of direction, which affects productivity and project outcomes. Poor Planning and Budgeting: The company suffers from a significant deficiency in creating operating plans and budgets. This lack of financial foresight can lead to financial instability and inefficient resource allocation. Chaotic Project Management: Projects start and stop abruptly due to the inability to make timely decisions. This results in wasted time, resources, and demoralized employees who struggle to see progress. Uneven Work Distribution: Instead of fairly distributing tasks among team members, management hoards work, leading to an imbalanced workload and potential burnout for some employees while others remain underutilized. Lack of Cohesion: The overall lack of coordination and cohesion within the company leads to a fragmented work environment, making it challenging for employees to collaborate effectively. Low Morale and Motivation: The combination of poor management, chaotic project management, and unclear roles can lead to low employee morale and motivation, resulting in decreased productivity and higher turnover rates. Unfulfilled Promises: Geoff's attempts to portray himself as an expert in various fields might create false expectations among employees or customers, leading to disappointment when those promises are not fulfilled. Negative Glassdoor Reviews: The evident issues and inefficiencies within the company could result in negative reviews on platforms like Glassdoor, which can harm the company's reputation and make it challenging to attract and retain top talent. Misleading Health Advice: Geoff's advice on heart rate zones is misleading and potentially dangerous. Heart rate zones should be personalized based on individual factors and maximum heart rate, and projecting a fixed range can lead to health risks for employees.
