Pros

A fascinating place to work - some fantastic art, and some truly world-class experts as colleagues. Also great for socialising - lots of friendly, interesting people, and a lively atmosphere.

Cons

A near-complete lack of any training whatsoever. Whatever you learn, you learn on the job, which means a lot of inconsistency across the company. Excruciatingly low pay - shockingly low. I was promoted, my workload increased manifold, and I was given no raise. It is nearly impossible to live on that wage in London, unless you are, like many Bonhams employees, independently wealthy.

Pros

Very exciting to be surrounded by all kinds of artworks. Never know what's coming in the next day. Multilingual environment.

Cons

Horrible pay for the amount of work people do there. Departments are incredibly understaffed and some people have to work ridiculous hours without being compensated. It's not ok! Some departments are a bit more friendly and laid back while some are as stressful as hell. And lots of passive-aggressive behaviour/bullying in the department - definitely wipes out the last bit of incentive to work those long hours with very low pay.
