Pros

Nice coworkers, casual environment, free soda/coffee

Cons

This was by far the worst management I have ever seen. The creative department in Dubuque is a sweatshop. The few good employees are worked to death; the rest of the staff gossip with each other for hours on end, every day. There are no repercussions for the poor employees, because the office struggles so hard to stay fully staffed. Turnover is high, and the only reason people stay is because of the lack of creative jobs in Dubuque. People who are not qualified are hired anyway, because Boyd's pay & benefits are so bad that they can't get good candidates. These same unqualified people get promoted within their first 3 months, because again, high turnover and they refuse to pay someone with better qualifications. On top of all this, the corporate marketing department is an atrocious mess, full of power-hungry females who refuse to compromise on creative strategy, demanding 1 day turnaround on something that should take a week. Raises are a joke. Expect less than 2%, even when corporate tells you how the company had such an amazing year, and was able to afford to buy more casinos. Also enjoy your $75 "bonus" each year - but don't spend it too fast - the taxes from your bonus will be coming out of your next paycheck. Corporate knows the people in this department are miserable, so they try to implement "Boyd Style" activities. An office scavenger hunt for a $3 candy bar isn't going to improve your employees' morale.

Pros

Team mates are great and easy to get along with. We support each other for help when Management is rarely there.

Cons

A confused management team with no support. Managers and Executives do not care or respect lower-level employees. You can cry for help, make all the suggestions and ideas you'd like to Management team and the Executives, but nothing will ever get resolved and you will not be heard. They pretend they listen but they do not do anything about it. There is an unrealistic workload that is present in the department that became a churn & burn environment. No strategy behind any Marketing campaigns and they do not consider any best practices. Some in Management have egos. Usual office politics but the low-key and fake kind. No leaders but fake leaders in the department, many of which did not deserve to be promoted. Company culture is odd. Nearly all employees do not care about the quality of their work, often making mistakes for the ones who care to fix them. This is truly a place to end your career at and not a company to grow your career. Avoid if you are a young professional or middle-aged professional.

Pros

Free soda in the break room.

Cons

Management doesn't listen to employees. Low pay and virtually no raises. Most of the work goes to a few of the employees, other employees lounge around all day. No one listens to suggestions. Prepare to be stressed and depressed because of this job and then be accused of not representing "Boyd Style" because you are unhappy with your job.
