Pros

Brightedge is a hot mess but here are some good parts. Most of the employees are nice smart and eager to help. Onboarding for new hires program is strong. If you are a recent grad starting a career in sales this is good training. The office is nice if you like to work in the middle of suburban sprawl., You can really learn a lot about seo sem and content marketing!

Cons

The ceo jim Yu is a control freak who drives his staff to overly long lengths collecting metrics so he can see data on every aspect of the company performance. Mostly it seems like a hobby for him and he loves having accurate sales forecast but he does make some management decisions based on numbers. I understand manage what you mesaure and measure what you manage but this is to an extreme. He does not take human subjective points into his mind. Most of his direct reports are afraid to push back because they fear for their jobs so they wind up basically being "yes" people who do whatever he says and they push his attitude down the chain. They are overworked and have no time to look for other jobs or many of them would leave and some have. CEO manages at overly detailed tactical level. There is a lot of employee churn (and I think too much customer churn). My team was trying to sell renewals but many customers didnt see the value in the product so they would churn fully or partial. Lucky for Jim his new logos sales team is very strong (mostly young university grads starting off) so that has made up for some renewal churn but that is not a sustainable arrangement.

Pros

- Pay is good - People are genuinely great - You'll learn a lot about using salesforce

Cons

- Micromanagement to the extent that managers review emails before you send them - Go ahead and read the above again.... - Platform is overpriced and the leadership refuses to acknowledge the vastly lower cost options swallowing up market share left and right. - Regularly understaffed SDR team. The hiring process is mismanaged every year, and between firings and people outright leaving, this group is often a skeleton crew every spring - which means fewer and fewer opportunities for AE's. - If you have 2 bad months you're put on notice. 2 months....talk about a hell of a culture. - No work/life balance

Floundering to an IPO

Pros

New logos sales team is a machine. The only exception to the cons. Two stars for the company it was when I started.

Cons

For a company that is fundamentally a technology provider for a marketing platform, they’ve understaffed the engineering teams and hired too few people with a background in SEO and digital marketing. Customers no longer see BrightEdge as a clear winner or see the expected ROI from the investment, which is reflected in renewals. Even worse, the CEO is obsessed with IPO and is making the classic mistakes: hiring too many SVPs/VPs with little relevant experience, micromanaging, too few doers to get things done, endless talks of reorganization, and deprioritizing the human support and services available to customers. Take a look again in a year. By then the current crop of management should have “moved on” and the company might be ready to perform as a successful business rather than a pre-IPO machine.
