Lengthy, but REAL review of life as a customer advocate...
Pros
-Insurance premiums are paid by the company -PTO days -company stock -student loan repayment -genuinely great co workers
Cons
-THERE IS NO WORK LIFE BALANCE. You will RARELY ever get off on time. The shifts rotate between 7AM-5PM and 10AM-8PM and the days vary, so your body will never get use to a schedule. -YOU WILL WORK EVERY WEEKEND. You will miss birthday parties, events, church, etc. Prepare to never see your family or friends. -Instead of making sure we are properly staffed or reducing the amount of delivery time slots, we are now forced to work overtime. 10 hour shifts (that easily turn into 12 hour shifts), 5 days a week. Also, you are NOT given a designated break. Your break is coming back to the office and grabbing some chips before loading your next car. -PTO days are useless because management will control when you can use them and you can only roll over 5 days to the next year. You can put a request in months in advance and it will still be denied. -YOU WILL SPEND AT LEAST 5 HOURS A DAY DRIVING. You are a college educated truck driver (they just stopped requiring a degree). Oh and a notary. Yay! (not). If you are not driving and you are working at the VM doing pickups, be prepared to have at least 8 customers and sometimes 2 or 3 at the same time. -EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT. According to management, everyone is miserable because we are not "profoundly positive". The issue is, we are not set up with the resources to make sure our day runs smoothly. Majority of the day is spent driving, the other part will be spent fixing other employees mistakes and taking ownership of something that has NOTHING to do with you or your job responsibilities. -MANAGEMENT IS TERRIBLE. Lazy is an understatement. They care more about drinking and "turning up" then helping their staff. Employees run around like mad men, while they are texting and eating Zaxby's. You are given an impossible amount of deliveries and responsibilities to complete and you will be belittled and told you that your time management is poor because you can't get it done during your scheduled shift. They are spiteful, deceiving and narcissistic, as they will only "help" you if it benefits them and makes them look good. Issues with management have been brought to several people's attention (including HR), but nothing has been done. Now, they are now only hiring people who they feel they can manipulate or push over. They really only want people with no mind of their own, so they can make you the perfect customer advocate (no life, all about Carvana, yes man). -No diversity in management. If you are Black, specifically a Black woman, Carvana is not the place for you. Black women are not valued here. They are only good for their resourcefulness and work ethic. If they bring any attention to work place issues, they are seen as combative and are targeted. They are overlooked for promotions time and time again and no recognition is given. -Speaking of promotions, they really don't exist. Unless you plan on packing your bags and moving to Phoenix to work at headquarters, you will be stuck in operations driving a truck. And management really doesn't want people leaving the office because that means they actually have to do work and find a replacement. -Compensation is low for the amount of work you are expected to do on a daily basis (the numbers on here are inflated). They have dropped the starting pay from $20/hr to $15/hr. Pay raises are a joke (30-80 cents a year) and consider your self lucky if you even get one. -The Carvana values and culture are all a facade. We're not all in this together. There are sidelines. Don't be brave unless you want management to start harassing you. The company isn't zagging forward, they can't figure out solutions to simple problems. Don't be a President (insert first name) Nixon? There are plenty of those (managers). They think pizza and occasional team outings/free drinks makes up for the BS you deal with on a regular basis. People actually did participate in the events, but now every one is burnt out and just does their job and goes home. The environment is toxic now. Everyone is miserable. Five people have quit recently and the number will increase. You know it's bad when people are saying OUT LOUD that they are looking for another job. -Safety is not a concern. You will be delivering cars ALONE, in the dark, on dirt roads, on main roads, in sketchy areas and their only solution is a safety vest. Not to mention that majority of the advocates are women. People have voiced to management that they are tired and have almost fallen asleep behind the wheel multiple times. The response was "oh that's not good" or "get an energy drink/coffee". The haulers also break down constantly because they are not serviced until they don't run. Several advocates have been stuck on the side of the road waiting for road side assistance with no support from management. It is completely on you to coordinate the hauler being towed. -HR can't be trusted. They've gone back to management and let them know specific employees reached out to them with workplace issues. -The whole company is based on vagueness and ambiguity. They want you to be comfortable with both, so they can use any grey areas to their advantage. Company policies are only followed with people they want to get rid of and their favorites are allowed to get away with whatever. It's very hard to know who to trust because everyone is in cahoots together.
