Pros

N/A in my opinion. See below.

Cons

If you’re contemplating working for COMSOL – make sure you know what they really stand for: “C” stands for, by far, the worst CEO I’ve personally ever encountered. On the off chance he’s not working out of the Tortola “office”, he can probably be found: sending offensive company-wide emails, making degrading comments to anyone who happens to be in the vicinity (especially to women it seems), and making important business decisions based on whatever mood he’s in. “O” stands for the lack of Opportunity at this company. Unless you’re Swedish, a family member, or have been able to withstand the company for 10+ years – there is zero opportunity for upward mobility. “M” stands for an entire Management team that has no clue what’s going on at any given time. To be fair, the CEO does run the company on whims so things can change weekly, daily, or at any given moment. Even so, it does not excuse the rest of management to be clueless, condescending, and uncommunicative. Managers should be chosen to listen, lead, and inspire their employees (not just given the title because they feel they deserve it). Most managers at this company constantly talk down to their employees and ignore any feedback they’re given (it’s very “their way or the highway” type mentality). The management team also has no spine and constantly lets the CEO and his family members push them around (nepotism at its finest). “S” stands for stagnant Salaries. If you’re still considering working here – consider this: most employees are seriously underpaid and raises are an insulting joke. You’ll also receive a $100 holiday bonus, less than average health benefits, and no matching 401k. In this day and age, there are so many other companies that value their employees and their salaries, benefits, 401k, bonus packages, etc. reflect it (run, don’t walk, to other job opportunities). “O” also stands for a toxic Office environment. Not only does nepotism and department in-fighting run deep, but not all employees are treated equal. Some people seem to socialize all day (without penalty), while others are “chained” to their desks and unfairly reprimanded if they dare talk/collaborate with anyone outside their department. This unwillingness to promote fair treatment of all employees, and on top of that, discourage department collaboration, is: petty, controlling, and a huge reason so many people are unhappy and leaving the company left and right. “L” stands for Life in work-life balance. This one small positive does not negate everything else wrong with this company, but it’s a very regimented 8-5 job that allows you to maintain some sort of sanity outside your daily nine hours of suffering.

Pros

-Free use of gym -Free coffee, tea, sparkling water and fresh fruit in a clean kitchen -Free catered lunches every Friday -Own office or shared office with 1-2 people -Close to restaurants and the Burlington Mall -Impressive product -Knowledgeable technical engineers -Holiday Party -Yoga classes on-site

Cons

Where to start... -Nepotism...like hardcore. Huge problem when management is picking people they know over qualified people for open positions. Friends and family don't belong in the workplace. -Low pay. For the amount of tasks your asked to do, compensation really should be higher -No HR department. So if you're having issues you'd like to some help resolving, good luck. -Clueless management. They have no idea what they're doing. They ignore new and fresh ideas and would rather stick to what they know. Resistant to change and there's only one way to do things. If you're trying to help make processes more efficient, don't waste your time. -Terrible email retention. If you need to save emails, get ready to copy and paste each one in a Word doc. -No remote working option. You have to be in the office, no matter what. Even if there's a terrible snow storm (unless a state of emergency is called). Or you can take PTO if you don't want to risk driving. -Crappy health insurance. You're better off buying your own rather than getting a company plan because it really doesn't cover much. -No matching 401k and no stock options -Limited vacation and personal days. If you're using some of this time for snow days, you're really not going to have much time off left. -No good way to track vacation and benefits. Unless you're tallying everything on paper. -If you're a minute late into the office, your manager is going to make a big deal about it. But if you work late, not only are you not comped for that, but apparently that's a not a big deal. -$100 holiday bonus. -So many approvals for everything. Be prepared to go through multiple people just to submit paperwork. -Manual processes. No one should have to rely on Notepad to copy and paste things into a database. And if you're looking for automation or tools to be more efficient, look elsewhere...this doesn't exist here. -Meetings are useless. People go over info, but no one really takes it in, and it doesn't seem like people really care (they're only there because they have to be) -Performance reviews are a joke. -Not creative when it comes to promoting the product or hosting events...try some new tactics to get people's attention -Product pricing makes no sense and sales people don't get commission -People with working visas are basically stuck at an unhappy place. -Awkward and limited communication. Talking to people face-to-face is preferable over emailing or paging someone on a phone. Also, transparency helps to let people know what's going on.

No Sales Strategy; Vindictive Management

Pros

8-5 job, no real work with salary.

Cons

No sales strategy. All sales roles here are inside sales roles. No pricing strategies, no customer facing negotiations and the model is almost similar to ordering software from a price list. They even cut down on customer facing workshops and visits. Dont need humans to do this. One can upload the pricelist online and customer can read about products and order it. They don't value higher education. Masters and PhD's dont even bother applying for jobs here. Even if you do, be prepared to be surrounded by college kids creating a fraternity like working environment. Management is highly disqualified to have any strategy when it comes to competing in the CAE market. Not forward looking management. Be prepared to be treated like school children with some rules. No benefits like 401k match and no sales commissions.
