Pros

Overtime offered often. Benefits for full time employees. Fun trips and excursions earned by performing well, but the money used could have gone into cash bonuses or raises which would have been more beneficial to many over a trip to a water park or a show. Don’t get me wrong, the trips were often enjoyable, but cash is king in this economy. Don’t know if they still do this but they did do holiday bonuses for everyone. Even new staff. Hopefully they still have this practice. Comprehensive training for new employees, however, training for supervisors and managers lacked structure and consistency. Advancement opportunities available for those who did a good job or was liked by the upper management.

Cons

Highly stressful work environment. The pressure to answer phones and handle alarms quickly to keep response times low, yet to provide the best possible quality of service is massive. Some people might thrive in that kind of environment but so many of the operators I supervised were getting burned out. In an industry where the company prides itself on being non-capricious, there was much favoritism showed by those in charge. If you were liked by management you were given advancement opportunities. If not, management would pick apart your performance to find flaws, which prevented you from earning raises. When I tried to follow the rules and hold my subordinates accountable for following the rules, I was penalized for being “too harsh”. Policies were almost never followed and rules are always broken by the majority of operators and management, overall inconsistencies.
