- Immature and unprofessional management. Everyone up to the president demonstrates unprofessionalism. (cursing, crude jokes, gossiping, etc.)
- No sick/personal days. You dont get vacations days until after 1 year which could be used as sick or personal days. Until then, you are governed by a point system that charges you a point if you call out or come late. The points affect evaluations which affect raises and after a certain amount you could get fired.
- Demanding. This is a alarm monitoring company right? Guess what happens when the weather is bad? Alarms go off. They monitor for Alarm companies across the nation. Nothing worse than knowing everytime that there is a bad storm anywhere in the nation your day at work is gonna be hell. This job has a response time for handling alarms. They want you to answers calls and handle alarms within a certain time every day which puts us in the hot seat..balancing customer service and production.Extreme emphasis is put into production causing dispatchers to make mistakes or give poor customer service to comply.
- Poor Pay. Make no mistake..this is a JOB not a career. You can't live off the pay here. In 5 years youll prolbly make around 12-13$ and hour! Not enough to survive on your own with. Add this to the fact that the job constantly adds new task for you to do. So your getting paid the same to do more things. This is probably why the majority of the employees are either younger (18-24 yrs old) or they have two jobs.
-Draining. This might be the same as demanding but this job doesn't pay well so that means you have to work OT to make any real money. The good news is when its busy (which is often in the summer) youll have plenty opportunities for OT. This job has no problem with you working all day/everyday. They dont pay you for your only break which is a one 30min. They make you wear uniforms. They put you on-call for a weekend every few weeks/months and you only get paid if you get paged.
bottomline:
The cons outweigh the pros. I don't know what you define a career as but when the president said "being a dispatcher is a career" I chuckled a bit. The great benefits are the only thing that keeps the job ahead of...lets say pumping gas at wawa. And while good benefits are hard to find, it doesn't instantly make a job a career. Don't get me wrong, this is a good job but my best advice.."Use the job, don't let it use you" because no one wants to waste years of their young life working for a company and realize they're really not going anywhere far.
