Pros

Free classic AAA roadside assistance Decent benefits - HIGH deductible but HSA contributions from the company do help with that. Diversity is welcomed. I met some amazing people while working there.

I loved CSAA at first, and I was so happy to work there. I used to tell everyone how great it was to work there and how much they cared about their employees. Key word = used to. We got a new CEO (Tom Troy) and everything started going downhill. The pandemic hit and everyone's life got turned upside down. Although I do appreciate the fact that we were able to transition to working remotely so quickly, upper management did not seem to care about the mental wellbeing or sanity of their employees during this change and decided that this was the right time to completely change our job responsibilities, while simultaneously deciding to put us through 1 week of auto physical damage training virtually so we could write our own estimates. Then months later we were put through another week of virtual training, and after that, we were expected to be proficient at writing and reviewing estimates. While we were working from home and struggling to deal with the ongoing pandemic, we were now forced to take FNOLs all day and take calls for claims that were not our own (which were mostly escalated calls because their adjuster was not answering the phone or calling them back), while also working our own claims with our own phone lines blowing up, writing estimates, and settling total losses. We were expected to be in available status all the time on the phone, never mind the fact that in order to get help with writing estimates or settling total losses (which were completely new skills for us), sometimes it could take upwards of an hour to get assistance. Office collaboration was out of the question since we were all working virtually, and it was a lot harder to get help when needed. Despite all the work that was put on our plates, missed calls were unacceptable and we were micro-managed on every little thing. We were told that layoffs would most likely be inevitable in March of 2020, however by September 2020, with the pandemic still raging, CSAA fired a large group of people instead, for reasons that are questionable to say the least. I can't help but wonder if they fired people instead of laying them off in order to fight unemployment claims... nevertheless, top-performing employees who had never even been written up were let go, which quadrupled the workload on those who remained, causing many to take stress-related leave of absences. Upper management and the company as a whole have shown questionable moral conduct and it is apparent that they only look out for themselves. They do not care about us, the "little people." Their lack of compassion and unrealistic expectations have caused a mass amount of adjusters (and supervisors as well) to flee to a different insurance company. There are so many former CSAA employees at this other company that I have dubbed it the new CSAA. Seasoned adjusters who I never thought would leave the company have quit or spontaneously retired, and now, since so many people have left, CSAA has hired "associate adjusters" who I guarantee will be doing the same amount of work for a lot less pay.... which now that I think about it, was probably CSAA's plan all along. During 2020, overtime was strictly FORBIDDEN. If we got stuck on a call after our shift ended (and sometimes FNOL calls can take quite a while), supervisors were advised to tell us to not put overtime on our timecards and that we could take an extra break or longer lunch on a different day to make up for that, which now that I think about it, is probably illegal? Hmmm... It's funny how CSAA fired employees for having "lack of integrity," when in fact it is CSAA itself that suffers from a severe lack of integrity and moral code.

Pros

Decent pay, very few good managers, but the good ones were fantastic leaders!

Cons

Doing everything that is expected of you with the upmost Integrity is an exercise in futility if you want to look good on paper. Never mind the value of tons of insureds always singing your praises and feeling extremely valued due to your care. Those of us who worked hard and didn’t take shortcuts couldn’t make the numbers; while the individuals who cheated and took shortcuts were rewarded for appearing to be more valuable based on the expectations on paper. It was extremely stressful and unrewarding. The first time in my career where my passion for service, excellence and detail in my work was actually frowned upon due to the need for quantity over quality. I quit because the unspoken quantity over quality mentality was not in alignment with my work ethic and values.

A great company when we focus on our members

Cons

All you hear about from leadership lately is about innovation and how everything needs to change. I had the opportunity to work with the new innovation team on a project around customer experience. Unfortunately it was a very poorly managed project. Directionless and zero follow through. There was little understanding about how the insurance business works from innovation members. Not a valuable use of time, and it was an experience that left me worried about the company’s future.
