Decent firm but beware of hidden issues

Pros

Good exposure to a variety of projects and their local client model. Much less bureaucratic than a big 4 firm. Culture is good. Benefits are decent compared to other places - fully vested retirement and generous number of vacation days.

Cons

Pay isn't too competitive compared to other alternative boutique firms. If you know your stuff and have experience to back it up, you can easily command low to mid 6 figures as a consultant elsewhere. I would definitely not consider CapTech as a "true" consulting firm. Majority of the projects were staff aug. Coaches are a joke and mostly in place to keep an eye out for their subordinates. BEWARE of backstabbing. While I understand consulting is pretty competitive, I worked with some pretty cut throat and super passive aggressive people that did whatever necessary to get ahead by throwing people under the bus.

Our culture and flat organization are two of things that help to make CapTech unique as a consulting firm, and we are happy to hear that you agree! Our coaching culture is not intended to encourage micromanagement or policing. Its intent is to foster employee driven careers. We are continually working to provide the best environment for our employees to grow, and it saddens us to hear that you did not experience this in your time with CapTech. – Suzie Turner, Principal

Pros

Decent work-life balance, but not nearly as nice as they advertise in their recruitment messaging. Solid pay and a positive community. Decent initiatives for further training and professional development

Cons

Roles on projects are driven exclusively by client need, so you may find yourself in a role counter to your career goals, or even what you were originally hired for. You are held financially accountable for your staffing and billable utilization (smaller compensation changes and bonuses for weaker utilization rates), even though you have no direct control over getting yourself staffed, which is frustrating.

You hit the nail on the head with your review’s title! Consulting isn’t for everyone and can sometimes be a difficult career to adjust to. We do our best in staffing our employees on projects that align to their skillsets and allow for growth opportunities. We encourage all of our employees to own their own careers and work with their coach, account manager, and our staffing team to help make their interests and skills known, and to provide the best opportunity for a well matched staffing. - Suzie Turner, Principal

Pros

Great work life balance - never stressed or pressured Flexible and generous PTO Lots of fun social evens Made a lot of friends Opportunities for interesting internal work Lots of young people Annual bonus and raise Competitive starting salary out of college

Cons

Project work wasn’t the most exciting Getting on a ‘good project’ is mainly based on timing/luck Many legacy projects with old technologies Felt more like staff augmentation than consulting Compensation is not heavily based on individual performance - it’s more based on overall company performance
