Great Consulting Work

Pros

CapTech has some of the best industry experts. Working here, I am surrounded by knowledgeable people who are enthusiastic about doing their job right and helping others improve at the same time. CapTech also has great career growth opportunities. With a small company mindset, employees at all levels are encouraged to identify areas for operational improvement and drive the solution. This is great for upward visibility.

Cons

As a smaller consulting company, CapTech occassionally struggles to fit people into their preferred role on client projects. This is usually temporary and people are shifted as better fit opportunities arise.

Pros

As consultants, we're oftentimes brought into less-than-ideal situations and the more experience I obtain in these situations shows me how important something like leadership is to a company. My first few years out of school I could've cared less about something as vaporous and often missused as 'leadership'. However, what I've found is that like a sound technician at a concert, leadership is most obvious when things aren't going well. When it's done right, things are smooth, progress is made and people are happy. When things go wrong, it's impossible to think about anything else. As I gain more and more years of experience I think - in addition to great people - the leadership at CapTech is their best and most underrated quality. From my perspective, the owners of the company share a few common characteristics: wisdom, drive and humility. That's a pretty powerful combination and they pull it off really well. I've been an employee for coming on 5 years and year after year we have really strong growth, great career paths, top-notch training and a respectful, engaging culture. Like most people I'm always aware of other career opportunities but so far there has not been another company that provides the complete package like CapTech does. I'm really happy working here.

Cons

I think the change from a small to a mid-size company has uncovered some growing pains. It's nice to flexibility trumping unnecessary structure, but there can be periods of ambiguity as we change our processes to keep up with our size.

Pros

Good at providing flexibility, finding opportunities that match individual goals, interesting work, do have non-profit projects (they are at a minimum but they exist), they promote and pay for certifications, hire quality employees, and pay decently. They also promote both remote and hybrid work, which is a bonus.

Cons

There are too many A type personalities, always in feedback mode, there is not always a balance in listening to clients vs. employees (more client centric), and say they focus on CSR (they do have yearly events, but they don't promote programs other firms promote such as matching donations and giving time for volunteering (you have to use PTO time to volunteer). A note for potential candidates - if you live in one of the bigger offices - there is more of a culture, the chance of meeting in person with clients, etc. Most likely you will also work on an East Coast project since there are more projects sold within legacy cities vs. the new smaller offices, so, if you don't want to work East Coast hours this may not be the job for you.
