Toxic Sales Environment

Pros

New office is great, most people you work with are cool. Good perks and benefits. Straightforward interview process.

Cons

CarGurus's sales org, particularly on the franchise side is a very toxic work environment. Leadership of this segment is erratic and plagued by favoritism. You are consistently looking over your shoulder for fear of being let go. Morale is bad and senior leadership is either blind or actively encouraging this toxicity. Women in sales are not respected. The general feeling seems to be this is a way to squeeze as much revenue out of the floor before letting people go so they don't have to tell The Street they are laying people off.

Thanks for the review—glad you're enjoying our benefits and new space. It sounds like you are not having the collaborative and supportive experience we strive to create and that we consider to be a hallmark of our sales team. We hope you'll communicate any concerns to your HRBP.

High Turnover, High Quota, Lack of Business Sense

Pros

Benefits are good but at this point standard for companies who want to stay relevant. New office is pretty cool.

Cons

The turnover can’t be explained as anything other than layoffs that they don’t want to report to the shareholders. I count at least 10 people this year and that’s just one business segment, and not including upper leadership who they also went though a round of ousting with a couple months back. PIP’s I hear are at least 2 a month…if you feel you can sustainably hit every month an almost $10k quota be my guest, but managers and sales tools aren’t there to help you and your book of business isn’t big enough to help you either. Promotions come out of nothing but being well liked…all the things you want from a job this job won’t give you and it’s really not a diverse environment within sales at all…absolute joke #’s of women and BIPOC to the point where it should be illegal. This place makes you feel like you’re the problem. You’re not. Don’t work here, there’s better options with actual market fair base pay. Word on the street is also they cut your earnings on ramp too so in an interview I’d suggest asking a lot about this.

We appreciate this review and agree the new office is awesome! Next time you’re there, we hope you’ll chat with your manager or HRBP about your concerns and ideas, and to talk through the most up-to-date facts about our attrition, promotion criteria, and compensation model. While diversity has increased over the past few years, we agree there is an opportunity to grow it even more.

Starting to go downhill

Pros

Great Benefits, plenty of PTO's they throw an amazing party

Cons

upper management on the sales floor is beginning to slowly destroy the culture cargurus was when I first started. They are trying to get all the sales team to sound the same and affects the vets there.
