Pros

I worked for two other large home health companies before Choice. I finally feel like I am actually with a company that is trying to help people. The programs are the best I have seen (cardiac and ortho especially). My agency is also a corporate office and the CEO drops in on clinical meetings all the time...he truly seems like he is much more interested in helping the elderly than profits. I always have patients--no ups and downs. I have been offered promotions twice over the last two years--- I like case managing but it is nice to know they are thinking about my career. The clinical team is great--especially the therapist. The sister company Choice Rehab probably has collectively hired the best group of therapist in the region.

Cons

I don't really have a con. I saw some nurses talking about caseload but I think they may have just not been used to home health at this level. The two other companies I worked for required more productivity than Choice so I do not really get that.

Impossible workload for field RN's

Pros

Initially the salary offered seemed fair, competitive based on years of experience. The RN case load is close to impossible to manage, even for a seasoned RN. BEWARE, it's not all that it seems. Also, they have an answer for everything. There is absolutely no point in arguing, they have perfected the art.

Cons

If you want to be worked like a DOG, this is the place to go. And if you are REALLY REALLY good, they'll throw you a bone every once in awhile.

We are sorry that you feel you cannot recommend Choice. We are glad that you feel that our compensation package was competitive. We understand that a job is not "all about the money", but we also understand that most healthcare staff depend on a good wage to support their family. That being said we are very pleased that both our hourly and per visit employees are paid in the top 90th percentile from a national perspective. In regard to your caseload--based on your review we are not sure what location you worked. From a company-wide standpoint: In 2015 our average RN Field Case Manager averaged 3.9 visits per day and 25 points per week. Our goal is 4.2 and 28 points. This is slightly below nationwide averages and we feel it has contributed to our agencies consistently being ranked in the top 10% nationwide for re-admission prevention in the 30, 60, and 90 day categories. Less than 3% of all paid hours in nursing in 2016 YTD were overtime hours. In 2015 we also began to trend away from salaried positions and move to hourly and per visit models for compensation. This allows the employee to determine how much they would like to work from there initial hire. We do want to objectively answer any questions or concerns of our staff. We have instituted the "Build-A-Better Company Form" found on our website for employees to voice concerns and work with us to improve the company. As some other reviews have noted Choice is one of the fastest growing agencies in Texas largely do to the objective performance in relation to re-admission prevention. Being this successful does require significant work. We appreciate your contribution to the company and hope that the objective information above provides some clarity on the issues you had as an employee.

Pros

Agency has earned a positive reputation in the communities served through providing quality care. This has afforded them the opportunity to participate in several relationships focused on improved patient outcomes. Owners and management value all staff members and offer opportunities for advancement and growth to staff. In times of staffing shortages I felt the company did everything within its reach to try to fill newly created or vacant positions within a reasonable time frame. This includes anticipating staffing needs and recruiting prior to a need being present, however; from previous experience I have found that in all areas of healthcare sometimes unexpected changes beyond anyone's control occur. In those circumstance the agency has been proactive in rectifying the problem as quickly as possible. CEO makes himself available to staff to discuss issues and has frequently incorporated employee suggestions into policy.

Cons

As with any health care industry Choice Homecare has at times experienced a decrease in staffing which does impose some difficulty for existing employees. Because of the positive reputation of the agency we will continue to grow at a rapid pace so even though the company takes a proactive rather than a reactive position on staffing we will continue to experience challenges with staffing on occasion.
