      My First Impression of Clean Harbors/Safety Kleen

      Pros

      They have a great benefits package. Very comprehensive training program which includes self-paced online learning and group web seminars. There are great incentives and I really like the Virgin Pulse fringe benefit package as well. I had no idea how big the company was until I started the training modules. It gives me comfort to know this is a company I could potentially retire from - knowing they aren't going anywhere. They have such a large market share and continue to acquire new businesses means they are too big to fail and that makes me feel very secure in my position here.

      I honestly cannot think of any (so far so good)

      Good place to start a career

      Pros

      -Good work life balance -Good introductory/ongoing training -company promotes from within -people are nice to work with -I gained a lot of valuable experience learning the environmental business during my time there.

      Cons

      -you don’t get a raise unless you ask or threaten to leave for another job -many opportunities for promotion that could be done remotely require relocation -shareholders come before employees -no annual bonus for hourly employees; my bonus as a salaried employee was based on factors outside of my control

      Poor senior management

      largest company in the industry

      Cons

      Senior management (VP, SVP, EVP, COO, CEO) does not care about their employees. They only care about their position and what will make them look good. They don't give raises unless you threaten to quit and even then they are more likely to let you leave than to give a raise even though they are the lowest paid in the industry. Margins mean more than people. Worst HR department I have ever dealt with. They are quick to cover up VP and up issues to protect the company than to fix the problem.
