Pros

Cyanogen was a great place to work when I started. More management was brought in, and everything slowly went downhill. Hopefully the new CEO can fix it.

Cons

* Management is clueless about what their employees are working on. * Too many buzzwords. Obviously their product needs more sockets and graphs to be successful. * Focused on metrics over everything else. * Laid off a large chunk of employees, then started hiring again the next week. * Plans to monetize their product were always half-baked, and almost always were things users wouldn't want. * Focused too much on hiring for certain positions (SE), while other positions were desperately needed as they were understaffed/overworked. * Quality of new candidates dropped drastically while I was there.

WORST, MOST DISGUSTING COMPANY AND PEOPLE I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED

Pros

Absolutely zero. There are negative pros and infinite cons.

Cons

Where do I start? First, saying the culture here is "toxic" would be a poetic understatement. From the initial conversation to the final round of interviews, everything was done so unprofessionally and disrespectfully. Then, once you join the company, you notice right away how abysmal the management is from the up down. No one is aligned or on the same wavelength and communication is nonexistent. The toxicity of this company is purely disgusting and leaves a constant, bitter taste in your mouth all day long. The fact that this company exists is surprisingly and if things keep going the way they are, I believe it will go bankrupt and close down. Word to the wise: RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN THE OTHER DIRECTION!! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT WORKING HERE. SAVE YOURSELF!! I hear that the company has reached a new low insofar that now they are rescinding offers of employment. I mean, who does that, really? That is the worst thing you could ever do to someone and Cyngn is exemplifying this maladaptive behavior now. I am so disgusted as an employee and I truly believe this company is on its way to hell.

Pros

Your fellow engineers are typically pretty good, although a lot of the absolute best talent has left by now. The office space is nice, and they have decent perks. Work is flexible and you can do things like WFH, take long lunches etc... Your direct boss is probably a pretty cool person. Cyanogen's talent pool is still highly regarded by other Employers, and time spent here won't look bad on a resume.

Cons

It's been run terribly up until now. I can't swear to the new CEO as I wasn't under him very long, but the previous one was a train wreck. Projects are typically high minded but low on the details needed to make them successful. Project management is the worst mixture of scrum-as-waterfall i've ever seen. This was improving slightly in that projects weren't being waterfall-ed quite as much (after the lay offs mostly), but that was replaced by almost immediately by a complete lack of direction.
