Toxic work environment

Pros

Health benefits and pay were the only good things.

Cons

Toxic work environment and management. They always spout that we are all family, but at the best they are a dysfunctional family. Favoritism and nepotism run rampant there along with a very cult like mentality. They talk about how important work/life is important but the underlying feel is that you had better be available at all times day, night or the weekends, it does not matter.

Pros

I became a nurse over 15 years ago to make a difference in people's lives. I loved my work and patients so much I went into Advanced Practice. However in recent years, the fractured bureaucracy of our healthcare system battered my spirit to what I felt was the point of no return. After the first wave of covid fried me beyond a crisp, I walked away from medicine for what I thought would be the last time. While pursuing other passions I stumbled across a job posting at Devoted. I admittedly only applied thinking I needed some short-term income to support myself during a career transition. What I found was a company of brilliantly-minded, compassionate, hard-working people who were building something novel to address the growing problems with healthcare delivery in the U.S. I googled the founders, Todd and Ed Park, and read interviews where they talk about putting the principle of Love at the center of all they do- not just regarding patients - but also in how they treat their employees and structure the health plan. Their tremendous leadership trickles down the organization in palpable ways. My colleagues are the most kind and talented people I have met in my career. Coming from a previously jaded individual (I spent most of the first year waiting for an imaginary veil to be removed and the true underbelly of the culture to be revealed)- something about this company is magic. I am honored to be a part of building something that will undoubtedly change the future landscape of healthcare delivery in our broken world. <3 Thank you, Devoted, helping me fall back in love with my profession.

Cons

This is a very fast paced, start-up, tech-heavy company. Processes, programs, staffing and management change very quickly as we adapt to rapid growth every quarter. This kind of environment is not for everyone. You have to have the right mix of adaptability and openness balanced against commitment and drive for excellence to succeed in this environment. Some days/ weeks/ months are harder than others as processes and products rapidly change. What makes it palatable is the people (I lean on my colleagues a lot on hard days) and the generous benefit package (including ample PTO, mental health support, etc) to offset the rigorous demands of the workplace. Also, while working from home is awesome- going from a more active to a mostly sedentary job can be tough on the waistline! :)

Pros

Benefits including mental health care coverage at no cost Pay and bonus

Cons

Work is disorganized and chaotic, nobody seems to know what they’re doing so it’s like the blind leading the blind. Changes are daily and often without communication. Change management is non-existent. Excuses instead of resolutions. Your voice is not heard unless you’re in with the right group of people or in senior management. Quickly forgetting the real mission and vision and driving employees to burnout while creating significant member abrasion. Talent Acquisition and hiring managers often ignore internal candidates post interview.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your tenure of over three years with Devoted and are glad to hear that our compensation and mental health benefits have supported you during that time. At Devoted, we operate with a sense of urgency because our members deserve immediate improvements to their healthcare. This means our environment is fast-paced and often requires navigating significant ambiguity. While we strive for seamless change management, the "rapid changes" you mentioned are often a result of our relentless focus on iterating for our members. Regarding internal mobility, we are proud of our high internal promotion rate, though we recognize that the interview process can be rigorous. We take your feedback regarding communication post-interview seriously and will use it to ensure our Talent Acquisition team maintains the high standards our internal candidates deserve. We care deeply about the well being of our team and do not want "speed" to be confused with a lack of heart. We welcome the chance to hear more of your specific perspective; please feel free to reach out to tmayes@devoted.com to continue the conversation.
