Pros

I personally did not have an issue with pay, but I know that is a common complaint. I did start very low, but by the end was on par with colleagues inside and outside of the organization. I was given promotions, but I have also seen people stay in the same position for a long time. And I've seen a lot of demotions. But those were typically for people that they should have just fired, but had a personal connection with execs. I think that the difference was that I made it clear, in a respectful way, that I was not happy in my current position and wanted to try something more or wanted different responsibilities. Some managers will listen, some will not. I've heard stories very different from other parts of the organization.

Cons

1. Hours - Especially on Dev team. If you're applying for Dev, be prepared to work nights and weekends regularly 2. Too many products that management thinks are godsends end up going nowhere (Backline, Patient Advisor, Akario Mail) 3. Turnover - very few people stick around for longer than a year 4. Fire drills all the time 5. Poor communication between departments- especially Product Management and Sales/Services teams 6. Nepotism abounds I also seriously question the authenticity of the 5 star reviews. I worked there for over 3 years. I hated it 75% of the time. I know of very few people who actually like it there, except for the lifers (about 20 of the Excecs pets). It is also very ironic that the recent 5 star postings are for the current open positions. I also question the validity of these some other 5 star reviews as they have given away gift cards and tshirts for reviews. Yes, they did not require positive reviews, but who in their right mind is going to give a negative one when you have to prove you wrote one to Marketing/HR. I also know that improving the rating was one of the top priority for HR and Marketing recruiting efforts.

Pros

It is possible to succeed at DrFirst but the environment can make it very difficult. DrFirst is a good place to get started in the Healthcare IT industry. Many great people to work with.

Cons

There has been a lot of turnover in the last year (over 60%). I think that this is due to poor communication, lack of support and unrealistic expectations/goals. DrFirst is trying to grow rapidly but seems to be getting in the way of itself to grow. The sales teams have been growing significantly quarter by quarter but it's never enough and the goals are completely unrealistic. The core DrFirst products are excellent and the key drivers for revenue but there is constant push to sell new products that are no where near ready for prime time. DrFirst seems far too concerned about bringing in money today rather than treating customers and employees fairly and focusing on long term growth. Product managers are under too much pressure to release a product before it's ready and then get beat up when there are issues.

Thank you for your feedback. As we have grown rapidly over the years to scale our organization for success, in the past our priority and focus was placed more on creating innovative products in advance of the market. We hope that you can see that we have been actively working to improve communications, invest in growing our employees and managers professionally, and helping people be successful. Change can take time, but it happens faster if everyone does their part to make the company a better place. We encourage you to give specific suggestions to our HR team or head of corp comm so that we can talk with you about what we are doing to address your concerns. Thanks for being part of our team, we encourage you to be the change you want to see and help us make it a world class company.

Pros

I met some really cool people while working there, and really smart. I also learned a lot about the software development process.

Cons

Compensation is low, expected hours were high (I was chastised for not working more than 40 hours), the product had an old looking UI and wasn't easy to start using. Stress was high, the management and CEO have no problem yelling at employees when things don't go their way. Turnover is high. Training was non-existent, you had to cling to the people that already knew the system to learn it (but they left quickly, or were fired for 'under-performing'). The company loves it's original workers but anyone that came on later is merely a resource to be used and cast out. Burn out rates are quick, about half of new developers left before the two week mark. I learned a lot about what not to do in the software development process because their process was so bad. The stress was bad, health problems among development was common due to the stressful conditions. Night work frequent, my roommates used to joke I worked 24 hours a day. I was continually promised I would be eventually be promoted and then every time I asked, it was a bad time and I was needed where I was.
