Pros

Been at DrFirst for just over 1 year in Inside Sales Dept. Learned a great deal and love working for DrFirst. The company is always growing and pushing us further. Clear direction on goals and strategy. Good fun team and environment.

Cons

Lots to learn in the Healthcare IT space. Quarterly number is very hard to hit. Very aggressive numbers only a few reps hitting numbers on a regular basis.

Pros

People who thrive here are generally happy people. If you tend to see the glass half empty, or you find yourself identifying a lot of problems but not being part of the solution, then you're not going to be an A player here. An A player is Driven, Disciplined, and Smart (DDS), and they are HF2 - High Fit- High Function. I've seen this company grow and thrive over the years. They aren't perfect- but their intentions are good. And they strive to be better every single day. The best part of working at DrFirst is that there are no limitations to what you can achieve if you truly commit to having the passion to make it happen. We still have that entrepreneurial, grassroots spirit even though we have almost 300 employees now. Ideas are valued here, thinking outside the box is embraced here. What I appreciate most about working here is that everyone, especially upper management, has good moral character and strong values. That has a trickledown effect on the employees and is admired and recognized industrywide. As a company, people like working with us because we are honest, we don't cut corners, and give our very best to each other and to our clients. If you are the kind of person who wants to be a catalyst to change, who is not content with the status quo, and desires to be the leader of the pack, and wants to see your personal contribution make an impact on healthcare every day, then you would be a great fit on the DrFirst team. The company has grown tremendously over the past few years. No company is perfect, but they honestly try to do right by their people and have a great culture. They give people opportunities to grow into leadership, and prefer to promote from within. They do lots of things to demonstrate appreciation to their employees and to have some fun- like their Driven to leadership classes, to Bagel Fridays, employee appreciation day, bringing kids to work day, summer BBQs, thoughtful thursdays, management mondays, on the spot awards, and All Hands Meetings – etc . I think the company will continue to get better year after year.

Cons

There is a lot of loyalty with the CEO and President, and they prefer to give people lots of opportunities to step up and improve. Unfortunately that means that there is some mediocrity that feels like is tolerated with certain subject matter experts. This can be frustrating for others who are working very hard. That being said, those who make big contributions are also rewarded well- so there is fairness.

Great Colleagues and a Forge-Your-Own-Way Culture

Pros

-DrFirst has many dedicated and smart workers. The atmosphere among colleagues is wonderful and is the strongest asset of the company. While the ramp-up period for new employees is longer and there is plenty of product knowledge to learn, other employees are very helpful at answering questions and pointing the right way. -Great learning opportunities are to be had for those who take initiative at DrFirst. While there is always something to learn, people who ask questions, take project leadership, and attend the sometimes-offered optional company-training will learn the most. -Good control over the project field options for your work as an employee. Several times, my supervisor has offered a choice to work on different projects for an upcoming cycle. I felt that my opinion is heard, whether it was wanting to work or not wanting to work on a particular project. -Employees have 9 paid holidays and start with 18 paid time off days per year.

Cons

-Work feedback is a precious commodity, as it's seldom given for people taking leadership roles and offered even less when someone is doing satisfactory work. Even more troublesome is that important checks on work are sometimes not recorded or simply not done. -Developers and QA get requirements later, rather than sooner, and therefore, have a smaller stake in their construction and quality. This also leads to scope creep and also often the establishment of unrealistic expectations. Employees will end up working 50+ hour weeks if they don't personally reject and time-manage expectations. Teams don't often do very good long-term planning, and it ends up hurting each individual, with little support or improvement. -Work from Home / Telecommuting is really not an option. Employees are encouraged to be present in the office each and every day or to take paid time off. -Employees were bribed to leave good reviews on Glassdoor.
