Pros

I met a really good friend here and hours are very flexible. It's a check while not one that most people can survive on.

Cons

Poor pay, forced to work with uneducated, intolerable and disrespectful employees (females are constantly harassed by men sexually, co workers are extremely lazy and don't care about their job performance, laboratory is extremely unkept and outdated), management provides false hope of cross training, promotions or higher wages; company has a racial prejudice towards people of color (NYC site); they are willing to let people go without a seconds thought or without any reason; total lack of respect for human need of survival. I would NEVER refer anyone to this company for employment.

Pros

Flexible schedule (PTO requests usually approved) Great smaller department managers

Cons

I was very excited to began working here, as it was my first "lab" job straight from school. Definitely gained experience but that's about it. Many people complain about lack of money from a job, but EMSL is REALLY BAD! The raises are too tiny (2.5% max), and they drag their feet giving it to you (months for evaluation feedback) and this is if they even give you a raise. Benefits are pretty wack and everyone complains about the health insurance. There is little to no opportunity for advancement, but always more and more work to do for the same base pay. Our yearly employee survey falls on deaf ears, management does not care because they're all receiving way better benefit packages than those of us in the lab putting in all the hard work. Senior management (aka the kids, husbands, wives etc.) walk right past the hard workers from the labs, in the hallways and say nothing, not even fake a friendly smile. CEO does the same thing! Just rude. Nepotism is real in this place and even friends and neighbors of senior management get their unqualified kids hired or send in samples that are treated like bricks of gold. Like previous reviews stated, bad plumbing was blamed on staff. First the women (blaming sanitary napkins and tampons) then the men. Now they're getting on everyone about parking placards in the lot. Priorities are really jacked in this place. Good workers have been forced out due to lack of appreciation and lack of pay...when instead some of the directors and managers should go instead!! Just gain your experience, pay a couple of bills or two, then resign!!! The turnover rate is HIGH here!!!

Pros

Honestly... I can't even say there are any pros. This was my first job out of college and I have to say I appreciated the opportunity to work there. Working 4 days a week was a plus. They were flexible with the hours, I felt like I I almost made my own hours. Also if you have the 4-10 schedule you get over time for the last two hours of the shift everyday, which is nice. If you are a fan of overtime you will love it here. I did meet some amazing and brilliant people whom I felt almost mentored me. I appreciate them, their knowledge, and their encouragement they offered for me to leave and not look back.

Cons

Management. It is beyond awful. They pick favorites and then treat everyone else terribly. My boss was so strange she was super condescending and passive aggressive for no reason. She would talk badly on the good workers in-front of the bad workers but in meetings with management she would complain about the bad workers and praise the good workers, she just did not want you to know she knew you were carrying the team. They hire people who are incompetent and do bare minimum and allow them to get away with it because they are lifers. They take forever to give you your raise and implement it and then do not back pay to the day they are supposed to. They are full of empty promises. Cross training is a nightmare, you literally have to fight for everything. If something personal happens and you explain it to them they tell everyone and judge you for it. This place made me realize how shady people are. I can't even say I took any skills away from here. They have odd accreditation and lie about everything, including to auditors. The CEO did in fact send out an email asking everyone to give the company on here good reviews. When I took the job the reviews were at a 1.5 stars or maybe even less honestly, where it should be. They do not appreciate employees, bonuses are a joke, everything they offer is a joke. Also you have to sign a two /three year contract because the turnover rate is so high. For the high stress low benefit (zero health benefits), trade off it is not worth the stress trust me! I left almost a year ago and could not be happier. The exit interview was a joke, I did not get to finish what I had to say because they realized I was treated awfully. Also you have to sign a really dumb contract that is NOT worth signing.
