Pros

I was able to pick up some very rewarding and challenging work. You are very much trusted to get on with your work and apply yourself. Engineers are usually very keen to share their knowledge with you, I have learned a great deal from my colleagues. There are good opportunities for travel. Design engineers are expected to take responsibility for their work all the way onto site. There's no set pathway for new hires. Some will see this as a con, but I really benefited from it. I was able to choose what path I wanted to take (within the confines of what was available to me obviously).

Cons

Some people find the lack of organised training difficult (i don't include myself in this). Engineers from the UK will not be working on design of robotics, just tooling. It's possible that some design work for robotics will be coming to the UK in the not too distant future. Also there's plenty of work on the robots in support and installation roles.

Pros

We are making the world a better place by improving aerospace manufacturing technology, making planes safer and cheaper. We work on cutting edge technology in our field and product excellence is the most important factor in the machines we build. We have sophisticated, knowledgeable customers who appreciate our special talents and abilities. There's a huge amount of freedom for the employees, and you can get involved in far more responsible tasks far earlier in your career than at most other companies. Plus there are very, very few stupid or slow people here, unlike every other company I have worked for.

Cons

It's a bit chaotic at times and sometimes it's hard to figure out how to get things done, but if you talk to other people you can always get advice and help on that. Also, the company allows a wide scope of personal behavior in employees and that can occasionally be annoying.

Pros

If you are self motivated and talented Electroimpact gives you the freedom and resources to thrive. If you require strong management or are irritated by lack of structure you will quickly fall through the EI cracks

Cons

Low starting salary compared with most engineering firms. Company almost exclusively hires young engineers for this reason which can be good and bad. If you stick with EI though, the raises are very healthy and the freedom is incredible. Profit sharing is also very healthy
