Pros

- Great mission at face value. - Some nice people! - Nice office space.

Cons

- Puts Account Executives through a two-week “training program” after hiring them to evaluate alignment/fit further. Either hire someone and support them fully, or don’t hire them at all. - Incredibly high turnover in the sales team. Six months ago, at least 60% of the current sales team wasn’t at the company. And I’m sure in six months from now they will have a new crop of sales professionals looking to make an impact. - The technology constantly has issues. Lags. Disconnects. Implementation rarely is as seamless as we make it out to be. - The mission is actually displacing many teachers/substitute teachers in districts by implementing a gig economy model to teaching. This undercuts the “constancy” we’re allegedly providing to districts. - The culture is incredibly toxic and it starts from the top. I genuinely would not recommend this company to anyone. But they hide behind terminology like “growth mindset”to rationalize away any legitimate criticisms of the culture. - Absolutely no regard for mental health and even the “unlimited PTO” is deceiving. There’s an amount of PTO management expects you to take (somewhere around 7-10 days if we’re being honest) and if you haven’t hit your quota…you better not take any time off, slacker!! - Salaries are not competitive. Fairly standard. You could get more at a similar company at a similar size. - Revolving door of sales staff makes alignments and prospecting incredibly difficult. - Forced people to work on-site before vaccinations were being provided. - Micromanagement. Everywhere. All the time.

We are sorry to hear about your experience during your time with us. We take a lot of pride in bringing high quality teaching to students who traditionally don't get access to teachers and each employee in the company is very focused on our growth and our mission. We hope that you were able to share your views with your managers as we highly promote open and direct communication. Performance matters at Elevate K-12 and so does collaboration and a two way feedback system. Our two week sales training program is very important to us as it helps us make sure that only the best and hardest working employees move forward to our sales function. We wish you all the best with your future endeavors.

Pros

Elevate kept me on my toes with three very different supervisors over the course of my first semester. The online platform is very limited and instructors are kept to a script. Many of the slides were flawed or wrong. QZs (i.e., quizzes) had wrong answers loaded so I learned to improvise and put on a brave face. Students were languishing from Covid isolation and my EA ("Classroom Coach") enabled them physical (food, school supplies), while allowing them to sleep through class. I found Polls and Open ended questions to wake them up and get them engaged. If you want to challenge your creativity at the expense of covering instructional material, this is a great place to work remotely.

Cons

Elevate is highly bureaucratic and management-centric. They are discouraged from giving Instructors endorsements (e.g., LinkedIn) who may want to return to the classroom once vaccinated. Academic Coaches (i.e., AP or supervisor) manage their instructors by focusing on what teachers control, which is little beyond prep of error strewn materials, delivery, and attempts at student engagement as "a talking head". The pedagogic model is broken in that Instructors are not teachers of record and therefore have no leverage over students (to coaches, to parents, to admin). As a non-district employee, my advice is to grin and bear it for the $20 and extended instructional experience.

Pros

Leaving the company for good

Cons

Even the PTO was a con- there was an undercurrent of shame for taking time off. People were hired and fired seemingly at random and without cause. Initially I viewed this as an opportunity to provide cutting edge education to struggling communities, but at the end of the day it was nothing more than a pariah. You want to change the education system? Lobby for higher teacher salaries to plug the holes and tighten up communities. Use your tech to help public school systems and teachers that already exist. Don’t jump in and take up the market with part-time teachers and overpriced half built systems. Sure it’s great for the part-timers, but once again you’re reinforcing a supremely flawed gig economy in a space that should be devoid of that thinking. Sales goals changed dramatically from the beginning to end of my tenure at Elevate. The culture was deeply toxic, and expectations and communication were all over the place. Short-term goals were always prioritized over long-term employee stability and that is a recipe for disaster. Also, learn the teaching market and the cycle for education, and change sales goals accordingly by season. Growth obsession here filled with narcissism and massive egos. This place is a walking LinkedIn home page that seemingly prioritizes human decency but belies an underbelly of fear culture. Starts at the leadership level. Change your priorities.

We are sorry to hear about your experience during your time with us. We take performance and numbers seriously for our sales team while giving them all the tools, resources, and training to succeed. We also encourage our employees to take advantage of our generous unlimited PTO policy and we are unclear about your comments on that here. We wish you all the best with your future roles.
