Pros

Sufficient training, resources, and compensation. Staff in the Technical Support Center is friendly, as long as you can connect with computer techies. The positions at the Technical Support Center (TSC) in KC are good for anyone that is just starting out and needing experience on their resume. The TSC uses proprietary software that requires bottom-up training, so they do not necessarily look for prior experience as a determination for employment, which is great for newly graduated university students.

Cons

Informal, seasonal, and basically no benefits for the seasonal positions in IT; you are a grunt. Despite supporting the IT aspect of the corporation, do not expect to be recognized by anyone other than your immediate supervisors and manager. HQ barely knows what goes on with IT. You probably will not advance while working at the TSC.

Pros

H&R Block provides thorough training, and employees should expect to study continuously throughout the season. The training is valuable and helps build a strong understanding of tax preparation. There are opportunities to "level up," and advancing through the certification levels can lead to higher pay over time. Management is approachable and readily available when assistance is needed.

Cons

The position is seasonal, and the starting pay is $12 per hour. During peak tax season, employees may work very long hours—sometimes up to 10 hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week—which can be physically and mentally exhausting. In my first month, I also found that some of the staff were not especially welcoming, which made the initial adjustment more challenging.
