Pros

Strong employment benefits: good vacation, sick, personal and holiday allowances, fair health benefits but pricey, top line technology in use, nice mission. Friendly staff - although sad to see so many dismayed by the approach towards the mission.

Cons

Leadership is "good ol' boy" style - promotions aren't necessarily earned. The HR team is lacking in dedication to their true responsibility and seem to be just fulfilling tasks dished by leadership, who are also more focused on their image and income than the company. HR has an "open door" to listen and then run to your manager and let them know what you expect to be confidential, creating frequent riffs between management and employees. False mission of "low income housing" non-profit when the "low income" housing they are managing are frequently not affordable to even their own employees! Work hours are set to 37.5/week but no one works less than 50 due to work overload and unreasonable deadlines.

Pros

The company seems passionate about its purpose and mission. You leave the All Staff meetings feeling energized and ready to tackle housing insecurity. The benefits are very competitive and you are

Cons

As others have mentioned, promotion is heavily based on favorites as the company is largely "top heavy" with very few middle managers. The CFO and CEO are one of the highest paid for the industry while stressing the need to cut costs and headcount at times. The company severely lacks diversity in the upper management staff. A lot of senior management employees have worked together before so if you're an "outsider" - good luck with being recognized for your hard work! They've also been promoted without any real managerial skills so the chances of you being coached or trained properly is very minimal.

Pros

Good location. Competitive pay and benefits.

Cons

Very poor physical work environment. An excellent story from the Washington Post and other reliable sources recently noted studies showing numerous drawbacks of open-space arrangements--less work done and more ill people. Research has shown time and again that workers get less done in open-plan offices and that colds, flus, etc. spread much more readily in such environments too. The benefits in building camaraderie simply mask the negative effects on work performance. Not good.
