Pros

Very good benefits, positive, generally friendly and helpful co-workers. Really good cafeteria food. People are quite happy to talk about their areas of ownership.

Cons

Aging code base with insufficient time/effort given to updates and breathing time to work on well, work. They will work you till burnout. Getting a bad or inexperienced manager (common) leads to schizophrenic instructions on what/when/how and the perceived quality of your work. Cross team miscommunications are common due to the size of the company and interconnectedness of the product.

Pros

High salary and excellent benefits, with a relaxed work attire and semi-free work schedule. Their software is definitely the top in the business, and it's rewarding to help patients and their families get the best treatment.

Cons

Epic is a "turn and burn" company - you need to work at least 50 hours a week, or you'll be pushed to leave after 3 years. I found their leadership practices to be manipulative and secretive. You won't get clear feedback and there are extra, hidden requirements to anything they offer you. If you want to succeed here, you need to be very aggressive about promoting yourself over your coworkers.

Pros

-Subsidized inexpensive lunch, breakrooms with free juice, free coffee -Large creative campus -Get to own your own projects and development. No babysitting -Coworkers are helpful, smart, and respectful

Cons

-Development in VB and Cache, languages that are used no where else outside Epic. Typescript and C# are nice if you get to work on a web migration project -Work can be boring. I wasn't very passionate about healthcare IT and I saw work as a chore. If you can do your job and you enjoy it, that's great. I did not enjoy the work and was not as passionate about healthcare IT as my coworkers, which ultimately led me to leaving
