Pros

Excellent benefits package, particularly the health insurance. You get the chance to work with a lot of talented people on a wide range of projects. If you enjoy travel, you'll have plenty of opportunities to see new places all over the country, and potentially even internationally.

Cons

The travel can get tedious, particularly if you have young children. There are a lot of Type A personalities, and occasionally you'll have to deal with folks who seek to climb the corporate ladder at the expense of others.

Pros

Epic grants a lot of latitude to make your career there what you want of it. You can stick pretty narrowly to specific work you enjoy within your role and team, or work broadly across projects, teams, and roles to mix things up and gain experience in new areas. No matter what you do, you get a sense that you're making an impact on healthcare in the world. It can be challenging, because healthcare is challenging, but helping our users - doctors, providers, patients - be successful using Epic's software to improve healthcare is rewarding. Your coworkers are intelligent, the campus is fantastical, the food is great, and the benefits are stellar.

Cons

Certainly not that different from many other jobs, but you will need to have your time & workload management skills in order or else become overwhelmed as work piles up. Know your boundaries and communicate with your manager and others requesting work of you, or people are just going to assume you've got time to take more work on.

Pros

My experience working at Epic has been overall positive -- I've enjoyed the unique challenge, the autonomy and ownership, the support I've received from my team leads, and the dedication and support from my teammates. In a short time, I've been able to grow my skills and learn A TON about an industry that is constantly changing and trying to improve. It's pretty cool to work at a company that second to the government has a major impact on healthcare in the US (and now around the world). I'm constantly challenged and learning, which I enjoy as I'm never bored.

Cons

You'll hear that Epic is a lot of work and we don't respect work/life boundaries. I have worked really hard at Epic and will admit that at times, it hasn't been the easiest. However, the support I've received from those I work with to help me get through the challenging times and the impact on healthcare I've been able to have in a short amount of time couldn't happen elsewhere. I've learned to create my own work/life boundaries which is hard to do, but it's possible (and still possible to be successful).
