Pros

Good food and health insurance. You get a lot of experience of how to deal with a corporate environment and have a lot of opportunities to practice establishing boundaries between your work and personal life.

Cons

Your work/life balance will be entirely decided by your manager and how willing you are to stand up for yourself (if they give you the opportunity to). Your manager is also the main contributor to your compensation, if they fight for you in reviews/rankings, you will get a decent raise, otherwise you could get stuck with 1-3% for two years until you get a new manager and suddenly get a 15% raise because they actually see you as a human being. Hypothetically speaking, of course. The culture leaves a lot to be desired, the bureaucracy continued to pile on more and more for the tech services division as my time went on, required additional tasks and nebulous policies delivered from the top-down while only listening to feedback once it became impossible to ignore. Again, policies tend to be selectively applied depending on your direct manager. Your sanity is often also up to chance, if you get lucky you'll have customers with a well-staffed IT team that can do their job instead of you doing it for them, in other cases you'll be stuck explaining things over and over again to the next new hire in the rotation. Also "Technical Solutions Engineer" is a myth, you're Tech Services the second you walk in the door (and back to an engineer the second you leave and put it on your resume...) You do get to do some solutions engineering, but more often you're spending most of your time working on troubleshooting tickets for your customers and the rest documenting your time logged to them for billing.

Pros

Being part of the whole process - design, development, testing, and so on. Beautiful campus, and amazing culinary team. High starting pay for brand new developers

Cons

Developing on old code, supporting hundreds of customers, usually using it in oddly specific (and perhaps different) ways, making backwards compatibility a constant struggle. High demand on all employees. Software developers have it the easiest, but it's still above average.
