Pros

-Healthcare benefits are incredible -Culinary is amazing -Campus is gorgeous, fun, and best of the best for resources -The people (not upper management) are generally the reason I love going to work

Cons

-Complete and utter lack of transparency from upper leadership in regards to salary/compensation, and recently company-wide policies related to COVID. Team Leads barely have more information than their team members, so they are forced to regurgitate "company culture" rather than actually help their team members -Response to race issues at Epic, in the Madison area, and in the world has been abysmal. President Carl Dvorak sent an email to employee resource groups of color telling them not to dissent with company decisions, and has not apologized or acknowledged this completely inappropriate action. No one else in leadership has attempted to apologize on his behalf or take any sort of action regarding his communication with employees. It seems upper management is completely untouchable and not held accountable for their actions. At a public company, he would have been forced to resign already. -Salary and compensation is a black box that not even your manager is allowed to know about. We are actively told not to share salaries with one another, and are not privy to how our compensation relates to performance. In general, we are just told that "Epic pays better than average", so we don't ask questions. -No option to work from home at all normally, and all employees being forced to come back to campus much sooner than any other big corporation. Employees will be forced to return in "phases" beginning July 13, despite massive employee outcry about health and safety concerns. There is also evidence that employees are still productive at home, so there is no immediate need to put 8,000+ employees back on campus together. This puts Epic and the local community at great risk, which a healthcare company should be embarrassed to be doing. -Paid parental leave policy is an embarrassment to a female led corporation that can do way better.

Pros

There is a ton of meaningful and challenging work to be done, and Epic is never short on new products and projects that feel like they're pushing the industry forward. The majority of my coworkers are driven, intelligent people willing to help you out when needed.

Cons

Employee health, safety, and overall well-being relating to workload expectations are not important to management. Epic's COVID response lagged in March, and in June they are now pushing for employees to go back to campus as new case numbers in Dane County hit all-time highs. All this for seemingly no other reason than an ingrained idea that "we do our best work on campus", despite evidence to the contrary as seen by the amazing support that customers have had from Epic relating to the COVID crisis since March 2020. The single-minded push towards bringing workers back to campus without any reason better than "CEO wants it" has been infuriating. I can't understand why we're weighing safety vs. incremental productivity improvements. It's baffling. This company will give you many opportunities to do great work, but you are on your own to look out for your physical and mental well-being, and upper management is completely disconnected from the daily experience of their thousands of worker bees. They are fine with this strategy, because they plan to hire a thousand new college grads next year anyway, so they have no incentive to keep you happy, healthy, or fulfilled.
