Pros
Eskenazi is the best company to work for as a nurse in Indiana. I have worked for IU and Community health network, and neither of those facilities valued their nurses and other staff like Eskenazi does. They truly advocate for their staff. They have night shift managers (at least IICU does), so even if you work nightshift, you always have management to reach out to if needed. They take staffs concerns seriously and let you know that you are heard and supported. The work environment is supportive and encourages learning and new opportunities. They also value internal transfers over hiring from outside the company, so if you're hired onto a med surg unit but your goal is to be in the ED, they will put you on the list to transfer and each spring a staff member from each unit transfers to their goal unit.
Cons
The patient demographic can be difficult. Being the county hospital we take a large number of homeless, incarcerated, or individuals being placed under arrest. Although this can be trying, you rarely have a boring night and it truly challenges you. Having supportive coworkers also helps.
