Pros

Having a broad, positive impact on the U.S. housing industry. Had ability to work on significant projects that made housing more available and affordable.

Cons

Very political environment. Unfortunately it is not based on what you accomplish or your skills and experience, reviews and advancement based on who you know and what others (fairly or not) say about you. More emphasis placed on perception than results.

Pros

Most of the organizations in Fannie Mae are full of senior leadership that encourages a culture of "you scratch-my-back-I'll scratch-yours". To enable this, they surround themselves with people who are "Yes Men". Most of the promotions are based on this dynamics of favoritism culture. It is more evident in the IT/Technology groups. Fannie Mae has some very bright people, but they stick around because either they have developed inertia or they are not employable outside. Most of leadership in IT/Technology is non-technical (including tons of managers and directors) who don't have a depth/breadth of technology comparable to a fresh CS graduate from a decent university. But they are in the top paying jobs because of their ability to "network".

Cons

Excellent benefits, decent work-life balance (even though it is deteriorating fast), okay pay structure.

Pros

Can’t say enough great things! 36 hour work week (half days on Fridays) $500 lifestyle spending account They will pay $100 towards your student loan payments every month (not taxed) HR listens to employees suggestions and feedback 6% 401(k) match at 100%, plus an extra 2% paid by the company automatically whether you contribute or not Volunteer time off 10 hours per month 18 paid holidays off Supportive and collaborative work culture

Cons

Could provide more PTO, but sick days are unlimited. Definitely more pros than cons!
