Pros

I usually write pros/cons as a list, so here goes: - Amazingly kind and smart co-workers. These people have become some of my best friends. - The company is willing to invest in tools / technology so that we can do our jobs. - Very flexible in terms of employee suggestions. - Fun and exciting product. 3D printing is trendy... but the product is next-level in terms of quality and performance. - Free lunch 3 days / week (family lunch). It's usually pretty good too. - I'm encouraged to work on things I like... If I like what I'm doing, I'll probably be good at it too. - Flexible schedule (some people arrive at 8am, some at 10:30am). - Newly renovated office space - Great health insurance.

Cons

- The fast-paced startup life can sometimes be demanding (late nights etc). - Somerville is a bit far from the city (but good if you like hipster stuff). - Bike room is too crowded.

Pros

I've been at Formlabs for almost 2 years now and love it here. I've seen a lot of change and watched the company swell to almost 100 people. Probably my favorite thing about working here is the fact that everything is constantly changing. No matter what department you are in, the rapid pace and sprawl of responsibilities allows you to explore and involve yourself in many things outside of your job title. Every day is a challenge and there is certainly little room to get bored. Everything you do here has a huge effect on the growth and trajectory of the company. The hierarchy is essentially flat, so every person's opinion has a lot of weight. This is why the hiring process at Formlabs is so intense....every person here is working towards a common goal and thus you are empowered as an individual. Formlabs only wants to onboard ambitious, forward thinking creative minds that are able to help Formlabs progress and effect positive change.

Cons

Startup life can be all consuming and it's important that you take the initiative to separate your personal and work life. I like burying myself in my work, but it's not for everyone. Prepare to have a blast and love what you do.....but make sure you have what it takes to thrive in a quick paced environment that is constantly evolving. It's imperative that you are a self managing individual. You are not accountable to a "boss"...you are accountable to your team.

Pros

Great teammates - all respectful, passionate, hard-working, and fun-loving. Everyone here has something cool (and meaningful) to share, whether it's a project from work, a recent vacation, or a side hobby that keeps them up at night. Superb benefits, and they're easy to understand / access. It says a lot when people choose to stay at work in the evening or make plans to relax together outside of the office. Activities of all varieties. Everyone is invited/welcome. Almost all operations are flat; people take care of their work and don't worry micro-management, or really management at all. Plenty of food and snacks around the office: sweets, treats, savory, nutritious, indulgence, organic. If we don't have it, you can ask. Oh, and drinks. Yes, we have a fully stocked beer fridge, mainly for our weekly happy hour, Foamlabs. :) Company is willing to invest. In team members. In systems. In time. In resources. In a fabulous new office. In celebrating project milestones. Freedom to treat our customers well. Everything we're doing drives toward improving the product or the customer's experience.

Cons

Like many start-ups, the training/onboarding process isn't well-developed or straightforward, so if you're not the type that can figure things out for yourself and navigate an organization, it wouldn't be a good fit. It can be frustrating to watch people flail, if they're not patient or willing to learn. For someone who loves a challenge, at a place where there are exciting challenges, it's easy to sign yourself up for too much. I'm learning about work/life balance on my own. There aren't policies for vacation, sick time, or performance review. It works out, but the vagueness is difficult to decipher and also confusing to outsiders.
