Pros

Highly motivated managers and associates

Cons

The company used to be about helping the customer and provide a great service. Unfortunately, for the past few years under the new leadership team the company no longer cares about the customer or those working for it. The only thing that matters is selling the over priced membership program and an auto deliveries system. Both are clear money grabs for quick profit and it is pushed so incredibly hard that customers are fleeing the stores at an unprecedented rate.

Pros

- Employee discount - You work for THE biggest supplement retailer - Simple job for Store Managers and Store Associates - Slower pace makes it a great job for college students - Allowed a certain degree of autonomy for Managers and RSDs

Cons

- Wallstreet has beat us up and forced leadership from DSD and up to become reactionary - 7 Day rollups serve no real purpose to moving sales numbers forward - Poor hiring decisions for leadership roles; reactionary leaders, and DSDs and up all believe in leading from the back rather than leading from the front - PRO Access is quickly becoming the new OMS; store teams are hounded to sell this $40 membership to guests and has resulted in exceptionally poor experiences in stores - Constant last second conference calls that cover the exact same topic for RSDs and up... this means we have the same sort of conference calls for our Store Managers resulting in burn out. - Poor pay for Managers - Average wage $13.xx/hr - PM program for Store teams has gone down significantly - Bar none one of the worst sales and employee cultures for RSDs and up - Uninspired communication from CSC since Bob stepped away from interim CEO - Sell PRO Access or get fired - Sell GNC Brand or get fired - Sell Performix or get fired - Sign up FREE Loyalty or get fired - Run a positive ADS Comp % or get fired

Pros

Very easy sales job, understand your guest, be conversational, and get products in their hands.

Cons

Staff from Store Manager to Part Time associates are terribly compensated with Store Managers making less than McDonalds cashiers (typically $16/hr) Constant turnover due to low wages and heavy workloads, part time associates are expected to act as managers at $9.50/hour. When turnover happens, store manager is expected to fill all expected shifts or threatened with termination (despite Texas State Law requiring retail employees to have a minimum of 1, 24 hour period of rest per 7 days of work. Bonuses are non-existent due to current VP of Sales and VP of Operations who strive to create incentive plans that seem attainable, but are discussed behind closed doors as impossible to “increase sales from staff” Company refuses lunch breaks and stores outside of low volume mall locations are denied overlap to develop and train associates Managers are expected to hire and train new associates in 4, 4 hour shifts (16 hours total) before associates are expected to operate and sell with a keyholder interview, many fail due to Store Managers recieving 40 hours or less of new-hire training, or being hired due to friendships with the District Manager Store Managers that are high performing, designated as HIPOs (HI PerfOrming, HIPO), are threatened with lack of progression if they refuse to move stores over an hour away with significant issues, if they accept the challenge, they will be strung along until they quit and someone in upper management is hired from failing businesses (I.e. RadioShack, GameStop, Conn’s) Frequently missed paychecks and bonuses (my 3rd week my paycheck was delayed) and countless times overpaid with money being removed from the following paycheck, do not expect your paycheck to be accurate, at times checks are scrubbed to remove overtime to prevent the District Manager from getting in trouble District Manager was very condescending including saying that specific individuals were the specific reasons he was failing, despite spending most days at home on his laptop and claiming to be at stores, open discusses about not needing to visit stores Vacations will frequently be denied due to GNC’s failing recruitment department while the District Manager spends weekends at home with phone off. If you put in PTO, no guarantee it will be paid as the company claims it is in violation of their policies and will direct the District Manager and Regional Director to remove payments Phone scams are prevalent, District Manager is NOT required to respond to problems, especially on weekends, which store managers are required to work, no exception You may not be allowed to be sick as Store Managers must put on their “business cap” and stand near a trash bin and throw up while completing daily tasks, while the District Manager may take a week off for a cough and then blame HIPO Store Managers for poor performance, specifically saying “It’s your fault my district fell apart”
