Pros

The first day of excitement to see a submarine before the disappointment of how much this job sucks.

Cons

EB is the worst defense contractor you could get into as an engineer. There’s literally a labor union for everyone else but engineers. Unlike other defense contractors, there is no 9/80 work schedule, they just expect you to work extra hours until you hit 45 a week (oh and you don’t get overtime for those 5 hours by the way). Think you’ll get great benefits? Nope, nothing better than anywhere else you’d get... like bonuses that are out of your control because they are based on how everyone at the company does so one bad apple and you get no bonus. Also, it’s a perfect if you wanna do nothing and still get promoted at the same rate as hard workers since your output doesn’t reflect anything. It’s also a hit or miss: your department might have a lot of work and it’s overwhelming or they don’t and you just get bored. Take me for example: I had a busy Department but I had to spend all my time writing tedious “reports” about things that barely have anything to do with actual engineering work. After 2 years of being stuck here, my group has had 4 engineers leave within a year by how terrible it is and my group is not getting people hired in time. So I quit, because it’s not worth it. Please, look at other places, love yourself because EB won’t.

Pros

-Interesting design problems -Great views of the water -Attractive starting salary -A lot of people fresh out of college, very social atomosphere

Cons

-Parking is just terrible. Management says they have it figured out. Well if its figured out so nicely, then why don't YOU park in the water street garage and give up your reserved spot next to the building? -Company reports signing multi-billion dollar contracts and having their best year ever and then cries the blues at raise time saying they are tight on money. -Cutbacks, cutbacks, cutbacks. No more tuition reimbursement program, no paid sick time, no time and a half for overtime anymore. -Toxic relationship between designers and engineers. Engineers aren't allowed to work on models and designers make their own design decisions based on their "experience" with no calculated reasons. -Terrible attrition rate. Its like a revolving door of people being hired and leaving a year later, so that should tell you something.

Pros

Job security (lots of work to do) & no two days are ever the same.

Cons

Company does not know how to take care of/retain their employees. They will hound you to get the work done, and then expect you to do more when you just bent over backwards to do the last thing you finished. The pay might be good initially, but the raises stink, so eventually you would be better off in the commercial world.
