Pros

- You can potentially make a really good living - Hours aren't terrible - People are constantly taking time off - Healthcare benefits are solid, but rather costly - There's a ton to learn - Off most holidays - No weekends

Cons

- your ability to make money is largely dependent on things outside of your control(location, managers, techs, customers, ect) - If your decent at your job, good luck getting moving into anything else. - promotions aren't based on merit or seniority - The turn over rate is insane unless your a painter - a few rough weeks in a row can put you in a deep hole(the company offers a minimum base salary with commission, that you payback if your commission sales are lower than the minimum - ie a draw) - constantly change procedures and expectations both from the insurance companies and from corporate/upper managment - To be a successful estimator, you basically need to become proficient at everyone else's job. This responsibility doesn't fall on the managers, it falls on you - dealing with insurance companies and keep update on their ever changing expectations(bad insurance reviewers can make or break each and every job) - a lack of support from anyone above you - typical corporate mindset, you're there to, and expected to make everyone else's paychecks. Your paycheck is the last thing anyone is worried about. - you are constantly asked to shoot yourself in the foot. You get paid on the gross profit of each job, but few things actually help raise gross profit. Most negatively effect it. - Getting blamed for everything...and I do mean everything. - Moody techs. Techs are pampered, and you are nothing. - turn over rate of upper management. There is always someone new coming in with a new and better way of how things should be ran. Some good, most bad. - micromanagment
