Pros

Global payments is a fast growing company, both in terms of budget and people. Projects seem to be well funded.

Cons

Offshore teams are heavily involved and produce some of the worst work you could imagine. Poor quality work from offshore and standards cause leaky pipes syndrome all across the company. Lots of hours being spent on fixing leaking pipes with the same horrid quality offshore consultancy. Existing services have so many problems that new work is hard to complete. Company invests heavily in agile project management leadership to turn things around but the line workers are still the same awful crew of incompetent butterfingered pipebreakers. Management insists workers kill themselves with overtime and weekend work so Global doesn't have to pay down technical debt on the poor offshore hires. On premise engineers quickly leave while company relies on contractors and H1Bs that have a much harder time switching jobs to execute their tasks. H1Bs and contractors also cannot keep up with the technical debt accrued but must protect their jobs, so honesty starts to deteriorate, and transparency and reliability decrease. No one can count on anyone else. Technical debt accrues to the point that automation and learning from past mistakes is impossible, as there is only time to barely fit in new required work. Everyone frustrated all the way down the chain because entire team is overworked, exhausted, cannot be relied on and agile is not working.

Pros

If you’re coming from government or another company with lots of red tape and bureaucracy, this will feel like home to you. If you like to hide behind paperwork and process from doing work, look no further! If you like to pass off most customer communication/work to out-sourced (oops, meant co-sourced) employees with English as their 3rd language, come on in! If you love to feel powerless and useless daily, then buckle up because we’re going for a Sunday drive! If great customer service is what drives you, this is not the place and time. Get outta here! Pay is nice (for some locations) benefits are decent. Business is doing great. LOOK AT THE STOCK PRICE!!!!

Cons

Global is destroying Agile with ITSM. They buy innovation and then kill it with process. Not a software company. If you’re not working in Atlanta, good luck getting any kind of any influence. You will be an afterthought. Customer anger with IT processes and Accenture is just “normal”. Lots of great minds have left. But that’s okay. We have our out-sourced peeps and half-assed processes to pick up that synergy. Some locations just feel soulless. No one’s really excited to come to work.

Pros

Not much, other than the pay and overpriced benefits.

Cons

Management is absolutely lousy and lazy. I am used to diligence and a fast paced workflow from managers who get things done. Here, management would take days and weeks to get around to requests. The PTO is pathetic compared to previous jobs I’ve had, and forget about taking any time off. You’re chained to your numbers.
