Pros

Loved the kids, and the actives Grafton does for them. You can easily build a bond with the children and that is the best gratitude you can ever feel. Nursing department pay is okay, but when working with the children one on one pay is great and benefits are decent.

Cons

You see children suffer from mental illnesses, which is very sad. With the mental illness comes violent behavior, and with that, sometimes you are protected and sometimes you are not.. Sometimes you see employees becoming frustrated with the kids and take it out on them. It takes a special person to work with children with disabilities and some adults just don't have it in them to do that. It can be a dangerous job but it can be very rewarding at the same time.

Thank you for the positive review! We're so happy to hear that your time at Grafton was rewarding. We know working with our clients can be challenging at times, but seeing them thrive and learn new skills is what makes our job so special. Our restraint-free, comfort vs. control approach also makes Grafton an exceptionally safe behavioral health organization for employees and clients. We really believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to help members of our team cope with compassion fatigue. Sometimes it’s easier to hear this feedback directly from a colleague than from a supervisor, but at the end of the day it’s our responsibility to ensure that people get counseling, additional training or a chance to catch their breath. If you witnessed a colleague displaying troubling behavior, we encourage you to reach out to us at communications@grafton.org. Thanks for being a valuable part of our team, and best of luck in your future endeavors!
