We appreciate your feedback. We strive to set a standard of excellence for our students with a focus on a rich liberal arts curriculum and emphasis on moral formation. Finding balance in a work environment is a collective effort on the part of administration and the employees, and that partnership is not always aligned at times. We appreciate your input on this issue, and we have in recent years made it our goal to eliminate the non-essential burdens on teachers. Thank you for providing us with feedback on the salary scale for teachers and teaching assistants at Great Hearts. We are aware that our salaries are lower than many district schools and some charter schools. We have been engaged in ongoing work on this issue for several years despite no significant funding increases from the states in which we operate, and simultaneously we must balance the need to maintain smaller class sizes, robust network resources, and safe and welcoming campuses. Great Hearts does provide excellent benefits (medical, dental, etc.), with employee premiums that are significantly below the national and regional averages.

We value your constructive feedback. We know our ESS staff help to make our schools a special place to learn and thrive for all of our students. We acknowledge that there are always areas of improvement for Great Hearts, including retention of staff and recruitment of experienced and highly competent administrators. As with any school leadership role, the leadership competencies at Great Hearts are broad in scope, and in addition, we value leaders who bring the classical liberal arts vision to bear on the culture and community. That broad scope is challenging for any one person to balance, but the network invests fully in leadership development and also utilizes faculty and family surveys to help leaders develop a greater awareness for the areas of growth.

Pros

Overtime is available occasionally for hourly workers.

Cons

Hourly workers don't get paid for holidays or school breaks. There was a time where we weren't paid for a month due to Christmas break and student holiday while they were working on their midterm projects. Additionally, the team I was on had poor communication and spoke horribly to students.

Thank you for providing us with feedback on pay for our teaching assistants at Great Hearts. Hourly employees are not paid for breaks however they do have benefits and other items provided in their compensation package. Great Hearts does provide excellent benefits (medical, dental, etc.), with employee premiums that are significantly below the national and regional averages. We appreciate your constructive comments about the culture at your Great Hearts academy, and we will share these concerns with our executive leadership. While we acknowledge that the culture of each academy may vary slightly, it is our goal to bring alignment and clarity to all academies around the mission to pursue truth, goodness, and beauty.
