Great Place to Work!

Pros

Small class sizes, a true community feeling, teacher autonomy and a commitment to teaching students at a high level. In addition, there is an emphasis on good behavior, a dress code for students, and teaching ethical conduct. Also great Health Care benefits.

Cons

The salaries are on the lower end and the retirement plan is not associated with the State's plan. Teachers also have to sub for one another which can be taxing in the long run.

Thank you for your candid feedback. The benefits of smaller classroom sizes and focus on behavior makes our schools so special. We are aware of the concerns with pay. We have been engaged in ongoing work on this issue for several years despite no significant funding increases from the states in which we operate, and simultaneously we must balance the need to maintain smaller class sizes, robust network resources, and safe and welcoming campuses. Great Hearts does provide excellent benefits (medical, dental, etc.), with employee premiums that are significantly below the national and regional averages. In the last year, we have increased our salary schedules for the upcoming school year.

Pros

The company has an interesting mission, and benefits and salaries are normally higher than other schools in the area.

Cons

The school will constantly push you to work off your assigned hours. There will be other mandatory events that will require your presence after work hours. You might end up doing the job of two teachers.

Thank you for your candid feedback. Thank you for taking the time to address such an important issue for employees, which impacts our overall health and wellbeing. Finding balance in a work environment is a collective effort on the part of administration and the employees, and that partnership is not always aligned at times. We appreciate your input on this issue, and we have in recent years made it our goal to eliminate the non-essential burdens on teachers.
