Pros

-curriculum is above average. -parents are invested and involved. -students are truly working on skills in their elective classes.

Cons

-upper management was very cold and condescending. -there were systems that worked but were rebuilt for reasons that were unclear. -culture was very patriarchal and not inclusive. -focus was on customer service, not education. -punitive for small scale things but not major issues (for ex: uniform infractions are a big deal, but skipping class isn’t).

Thanks for your feedback. We know that our Great Hearts students and parent community make our schools incredibly unique and special. While we acknowledge that the culture of each academy may vary slightly, it is our goal to bring alignment and clarity to all academies around the mission to pursue truth, goodness, and beauty. Those pillars demand that our teachers and staff model virtuous excellence, but in any human endeavor, we fall short of those expectations and the work is hard at times.

Thank you so much! We strive to set a standard of excellence for our students with a focus on a rich liberal arts curriculum and emphasis on moral formation. We know our teachers and staff make our schools incredibly unique and special. Thank you for providing us with feedback on the salary scale for teachers and teaching assistants at Great Hearts. We are aware that our salaries are lower than some other schools. We have been engaged in ongoing work on this issue for several years despite no significant funding increases from the states in which we operate, and simultaneously we must balance the need to maintain smaller class sizes, robust network resources, and safe and welcoming campuses. Great Hearts does provide excellent benefits (medical, dental, etc.), with employee premiums that are significantly below the national and regional averages.
