Pros

Blocks continuing training in tax law is excellent. You can easily pile up a couple hundred hours in training if motivated to do so. The other "pro" would be you can probably set your own hours.

Cons

Low pay, poor benefits. Not enough financial incentive for this to be anything but "extra money". They want you to go out and find your own clients, yet don't provide any additional financial incentive to do so. Prior education and/or experience mean nothing. You could be a CPA with a Master's in Taxation and you'll be making the same low pay as the high school drop out sitting next to you. Too much emphasis placed on selling products instead of providing a complete and accurate tax return.

Pros

Learn about old and new tax laws and deductions/credits; beneficial for doing one's own taxes

Cons

My particular store manager was of little help. I relied on my coworkers to help me learn the finer details of the software system as well as specific interpretations of certain tax laws. Shyness will prevent you from learning.
