Tax Pro Pay

Pros

Continuing Education available with extensive course offerings. They support and pay for Tax Pros getting EA registration. The clients are good and appreciative of the expertise and help. Coworkers are generally very helpful. Tax Reasearch support is excellent for complicated tax issues. Dedicated staff.

Cons

Pay is ridiculously low for the industry standard. Entirely of focus is on number of returns and finishing them quickly - and your performance is scrutinized daily even when there are holdups from the client like missing information, etc. Tax Pros are required to upsell clients on financial products regardless of whether they might be a good idea for an individual client. Tax Pros are responsible for any negative marks on surveys including questions on things outside of their control, like pricing, receptionist service, and lobby wait times. Difficult for new employees to be kept busy as long-time tax pros keep all their clients and get assigned new clients first. Employee retention is an issue.

Pros

H&R Block provides training programs, including tax preparation courses, which are great for those looking to gain or enhance their knowledge of tax laws. Opportunity to earn certifications that can boost your resume

Cons

Entry-level pay might be lower compared to other jobs in the financial services industry. Compensation may depend on client volume, especially for commission-based roles.
